I would make sure he doesn't equate hand with food by handling him and what not, and I would not drop the mouse in with my hand, but with something else to that he doesn't see the heat from your hand and think "DINNER!"
When I feed live (sometimes I have to for the picky ones) I keep them in a box and gently drop them in without pre-scenting and let the snake do all the hunting. No prolonged agression issues at all.
I've definitely been "dinner" after the dead rat dance hahaha
I tried tongs once, didn't work because I kept dropping the rat and I didn't want to stress my snake out
after that I use live and I've only fed in the enclosure, not a chance i"m going to pick up my snake after its just ate
once she's finished eating she'll cruise around her tank for a bit and then go to bed for days
it takes like 30 seconds for her to get the mouse, I wouldn't say that she's aggressive, more of a little piggy lol :P
Re: I am going to have to disagree
Heh. I was gone for a few days so my bp didn't get to eat on his schedule, he struck at the glass before I even got a chance to move him into his feeding enclosure, it scared the crap out of me.
Re: I am going to have to disagree
i was just worrying about this
but i just went for it, flicked the rat in the head then dangled it in front of my snake. as soon as i dropped him he struck! yay first feeding went wonderful ill post pictures soon!!!:D
Re: I am going to have to disagree
I tried feeding out of the enclosure.
The snake struck at me when I was putting it back.
Feeding out of the enclosure no more.
Re: I am going to have to disagree
I always put my BP in a box when feeding. I never have problems putting her back after she eats. I just make sure to pet her a little first and let her know dinner time is over (which she's generally pretty plump by the anyway). She is just as normal acting as can be. Just goes to show every snake is different and unique.
