Snake moments

I wouldn't say playing to her heart. Presents probably won't do anything except waste your money, what you want to do is show responsibility. I just recently got mine and I was in quite the same situation. I did make alot of smart ass comments but I wouldn't suggest that.
Other then that, I just got my snake 8 days ago and ever since the 3rd day or so he's been coming out when the light goes on, when I walk into the room, when I open his cage. He's been eating good and he hasn't snapped at me or anything. He's about to shed I believe so he's been hiding alot today but usually he's climbing the walls. He actually was drinking(I think) water off of the walls after I misted yesterday. He leaned up against it and put his face right up to the glass and was flicking his tounge on the drops of water.

kool i so want to be able to say things like that and get more involved but im being held back by not having the practical knowledge (i have the theory but not actually looked after snakes)

so thanks and more experiences plz

I'm gonna go ahead and tell you whats up. I guess you could call me rebellious, I see myself as "the Unbeliever". Prove to me why your decision is a valid and logical decision. I did this often when talking to superiors. (Didnt always work, but I did it anyways)

She says, you can't have one.
Why?
She says she doesnt like them.
Okay why dont you like them?
Because they are weird.
Why are they weird to you?
I don't like how they move, its unnatural.

So your pushing your fears on me because why, you don't like how they move?? I don't think that's very responsible as a parent, you should groom your children to have an open mind, not be prejudice because how something moves, looks or eats.
(Then give her the facts)
Snakes dont have dander, they poo once a month, they eat once a week. They are not prone to biting, they have simple husbandry requirements that are easy to take care of. I am trying to better myself by learning about these amazing creatures. You may never see this snake, they are nocturnal. It won't get out if unless someone lets them out. (keeping in mind you have a good secure set up) I dont have to feed live mice, I can get frozen. You won't ever have to see, care for, or handle this animal. Why again can't I have one? You won't even know its there.


Now, this may not work, but thats how I usually handle a situation where someone (superior) tells me I cant do this or that. LOL, and I would probably buy one anyways. (I dont really suggest doing this unless you already are like this)

Although I don't disagree with the idea of further discussion with your Mom, I'd be careful about challenging too much. She may just shut down completely! If she were to say that she's afraid of them, for example, you might continue the discussion by asking what she's afraid of...be careful of your tone of voice and just have open communication. Avoid "why" questions and stick to "what, where, when". People tend to get more defensive when you ask "why". They think your judging them vs. have open conversation. :snake:

Oh yea, that was drinking. Snakes do love the freshly misted water.

that is all good L,I,G but i dont feel like she is trying to put me off snakes she just doesnt want 1 in her house which i can see but what annoys me is when i explain a lot of the time they hide and when i let it roam it would be in my room (and in the garden on a hot day) this is the bit that annoys me is when she comes out with a sarky comment like "well if they hide most of the time then you wont see it or be able to do anthing with it"

i know i could go down the educational and observing route but i feel myself getting wound up from the comment before i have to walk away

LOL, yea, "my way or the highway." I don't recommend doing what I said, it's just that I usually get my superiors to cave. (it helps to be sweet as a peach about it too :D) I would recommend going crazy into ball pythons though, live it breathe it be it. Maybe she'll see how dedicated you are, and how miserable you are without one. Maybe that'll get to her softer side. ;)

lets hope so i have been getting my fix on here pretty much everyday so she can see that and its been two month and dont worry i will get a snake even if it takes me until im 38 ill be getting 1 then you can have pics of me looking proud with my very own ball python:gj:

my mom didn't want me to have a snake in her house either. so a few years later i went out and got a couple pet tarantulas... she didn't even notice when i got the snake =D
but to my advantage i'm away at college now, so my pets only come home for limited time over long breaks. interesting enough though when i am home my mom always has to look at all of them every night. she says it's to make sure none of them got out, but i think it's more of her becoming more interested in them hah.
so i guess in my ramble.. i'm saying find something that scares her even more and make the snake pet a compromise.

i like it any suggestions on something that moves wierder than a snake lol
