I'm not holding back anything on this or any other forum. Or in person! Why because I do not lie... I am Me..

But this isn't the same as meeting someone through a friend or real life. If you meet someone in person, usually you're introduced by someone else and that middle person has told you about each other so you know what to expect. On a forum, there are a lot of users. A lot are well known, but someone may not know who you are and may not know that's what you're like.

You can be yourself, and honesty is important, but it's also important to show some discretion in your answers, and try to temper them so that the message that needs to be getting across- how to care for or enhance the quality of life for your snake- is received, rather than leaving a new user to wonder "Why don't they like me? I just wanted to know if a heat rock is okay and Petland said it was okay..."

Personally I try to post as though the person is a stranger looking for advice. I remember my first few threads here asking for advice and on another forum. I asked about those mesh cages. On the other forum I was at the answer I basically got was "Are you stupid those are never intended for snakes" but here, it was actually debated but I was still advised to use a tub. This site isn't going down the drain by far, and it's really great for such a small forum for posting quality.

I think that "Take it to PM" should become a mantra when drama starts in a thread. Just to remind people, because sometimes you're too busy arguing to remember that you don't have to be doing it in public :P

There's a LOT worse places where your gender, sexual orientation, color, age, etc. will get tossed in your face and they don't moderate it one bit.

Sure we have the occasional disruption here, sure we can get opinionated but tell me straight up honestly when is the last time you got a comment for not keeping a snake right and they called you a rude word, questioned your sexuality or said you did this because you are a certain color or a certain gender! Come on folks, that is flaming and being hated on!

I do agree with Adam that there's a lot of crud lately and some of it is beyond stupid but I'm of the mind that it will pass and those that create it will simply get bored and wander off once they are exposed for the online idiots they are.

Perhaps I'm being overly blunt and not candy coating it but I know we live in a world full of problems. I don't think we can create an online place that is some sort of pink coated fantasy everyone loves everyone place. I see a place like BPNet where we have men, women, young teens and kids, gay, straight, transgendered, made of money, counting the days till payday, tall, short, skinny, fat, jewish, christian, muslim, agnostic, white, black, and every color and nationality....whatever. I see that it doesn't matter and it never really comes up. I see some problems but I also see a great core group of long time members that really care and a lot of newcomers that really want to learn or share their experiences. I see some idiots, losers and jerks too because that's part of any group of human beings! Nothing odd in that, just folks being folks as usual but most of you are the kind of folks I'm proud to know and I'm glad BPNet brought that about.

So we have some problems, who doesn't. How about some constructive suggestions to the Mod/Admin team and less grumbling about someone "flaming" or "hating on" you.

(and yes I post huge posts LOL...I'm a mouthy broad with an opinion....feel quite free to "flame" away on that for awhile :) )

Well said, and thoughtful post, Joanna!
