Here's the link just for giggles: http://www.peta.org/living/companion...ring-reptiles/

(I'm vegan, and as much as I dislike PETA, they have about the biggest repertoire of vegan recipes around, so I've spent quite a bit of time clicking around their site. I also think it's good to have a good idea of what people who so violently oppose pet ownership are actually saying and how they try to justify their points)

Unless a situation is so bad that every animal involved would be better off dead, you don't even want to THINK of getting PETA involved. Their field teams are generally made up of individuals with little to no official training (such as an animal control officer might have), no knowledge of what is and is not legal to do for an animal without the owner's permission, and an intense devotion to the idea that animals should not be kept as pets period. The end result of getting them involved would have probably been a dead burm and a psychopath who still felt justified in trapping and killing their neighbors' pets.

It's not that we don't understand the seriousness of the crimes, it's that no one involved had the resources or knowhow to get this person's location, and if they did, local law enforcement should have been contacted, not some organization that thinks having pets is equivalent to owning slaves. I don't think you have a grasp of how toxic these organizations are and how little they really do to advance animal welfare.

You wrote this while I was writing my post :P Sorry.

Youre right. I'm wrong. Poor form by me! I now stand corrected.

I saw your post about PETA being crazy after I had written the first part of that, otherwise I wouldn't have tried to keep driving it into the ground lol.

You (and anyone else) should still totally check out their link on reptile care. If it weren't being pedaled as actual care information, it would be funny.

Every time I think of PETA I think of how they wanted to rename fish to "sea kittens" so no one would eat fish. :8:

    I just cackled out loud.

Sometimes to think that poeple can't possibly be this nuts, but then someone from PETA opens their mouth again and- welp.

Just so it's perfectly clear. HSUS is the same as PETA. Neither are law enforcement and neither wants to help any pet owner. They want to outlaw owning pets. Period. They have zero authority. They are not police nor are they a government agency. Don't say "PETA is crazy" as if HSUS isn't the same thing. HSUS is happy to have PETA do the outlandish crazy stuff so when they put up their ideas of crazy laws banning all pets it sounds reasonable.

And as for the other crazy guy who thinks it's great fun to tell outright lies and make snake owners look like psychopaths, please, don't help us. Don't own reptiles. Don't pretend to own reptiles. Just don't. I don't care if you think people can't be educated. I don't care if you think "only stupid people will believe". It's a stupid idea and it's not funny. How can you possibly say you love your own pet and still think it's hysterical to make another pet owner upset because they believe you'd murder THEIR pet? "Oh I was telling an outright lie" doesn't make it okay to tell the lies. You can't UnSpeak words. In the age of the internet, you can't un-do the damage.

To the OP, please, if you're going to be posting on Craigslist, as least be specific about the "prey items" you want. It's still a bad idea, after all, you'd be getting unknowns to begin with. What were all the animals treated with before they were given to you? With the idiots that abound out there, you could get a deliberate poisoning from contaminated animals just to save a little money or time. ALso, a tip, if you add in things like "Needed: FROZEN rabbits or rodents as food", people won't think as poorly of it. That makes it clear you want animals to be used as food, and aren't looking for someone's beloved pet bunny to feed to your reptiles.

I was trying to remember this specific incident (there've been some strange ones on tumblr) but THAT made me remember her. Yeah, that was a big mess.

Anyways. I can't even begin to say how angry it makes me when I see people in the reptile community making "jokes" about things like this. It makes me wonder if they are even paying attention to the fight we're all facing. Whether we like it or not, each one of us represents the reptile community as a whole. And even things said in jest can get blown up.

OK I got a couple nasty-grams from posting this previously. Someone wants me dead and someone for some reason thinks some kind of "karma" will come from this.

Lame and un-professional. I'm just a woman with a large snake that needs to eat!

And for the lady telling me how she "feels" snakes to be vile, disgusting and so on - we maybe you should look at your own diet before judging. Hypocrite!

    Hello friends!
I have a very healthy Burmese Python "Shadow" who had escaped from his previous owners tank and ate his cat's entire litter of kittens.
Well the unfortunate part is that Shadow will now only feed on white kittens. She refuses to take anything else.

My current kitten supplier has run out and I am now in search of a more stable supply or short term supply of about a bushel of them. She is a voracious kitten eater so she will take many in one feeding, then be good for about 3 weeks.

Please shoot me an email with details. Shadow is hungry and she get's a little agitated when she is.

Attached are pictures of Shadow and the perfect size kittens

    Thanks and God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There you go. People elaborated as to why this post wasn't funny... While maybe we would see it as satire, the great majority of people who know little-nothing about burms are thinking that you are seriously legit. While anyone can look at the TMNT thing and KNOW that it is all in fun. Do you see the reasoning here...? It's true. PETA, abomination that they are, would take a post like this and make it into all kinds of BS which we know isn't true, but which the public as a whole would accept as fact, while they could not twist TMNT into "Turtle owner feeds pet pizza in horrid abuse case" without a pic and re-write.
