I am planning on coming down and checking this show out but can't seem to find the hours of the show or the "rules" of the show on the website. I am assuming it is a no outside animals, unless of course you are a vendor. Any information would be a great help for planning purposes.

    Thanks,

    John

If you click on Schedule of events from the homepage, times are listed there, it's Saturday & Sunday; 9am to 4pm. Rules are listed here on the website, sorry that it was not easier to find :) http://www.westalabamareptileexpo.com/VendorInfo.htm

What do you mean by "outside animals......"
We do not have any tables available but if you would like to vend at our Spring show, feel free to email me at worknmommie@dixiepythons.com and I can put ya on the list.

Ahhh... I didn't click that link. I am not interested in setting up a table this time. Just as a suggestion, you may want to also post the hours on the home page and/or on the tickets page for easier view of those who do not have an interest in being a vendor.

What I was wondering, and I couldn't figure out how to word it for some reason, was if someone entering the show, not a vendor, was allowed to bring in animals for sale? For example, could I bring my BP's to the show to attempt to trade/sell without having a table?

    Thanks for the help,

    John

That's not really fair to vendors who paid for tables, don't you think?

It wasn't a topic of fair or unfair. I didn't see it specifically in the rules of the show, so I though that I would ask. Most of the shows that I have visited, or looked at their website, specifically prohibit the general admission guests from bringing in animals from outside the show.

As far as fair or not fair goes, I see reptile shows no different than gun shows. Vendors are there to sell their goods, at both gun and reptile shows, and, if allowed by the promoters of the show, the general admission guests are allowed to bring in their goods and walk the show in an attempt to sell/trade their goods as well.

The way I see it, it is up to the promoters of the show to decide the rules, and since the rule is not specifically stated on the website, I felt that it was appropriate and respectful to ask prior to attending, rather than showing up at the show making an assumption.

They're very different - we're talking live animals that could be carrying communicable diseases - gun shows aren't worried about an outside gun infecting a vendor's guns.

But you're right - we'll let Angie and Will respond to your question, though I can tell you - not many vendors would be happy that they paid for a table to sell their animals when anyone can walk in without a table to sell animals. Myself included.

Even though the rules are in place, it does not guarantee that one of the vendors, knowingly or unknowingly, will not bring an animal(s) that are unhealthy in some way shape or form. Mites and IBD are just a couple of examples that you could easily contract while at any show, from a fellow vendor or guest, and not realize it for days to months later.

From my perspective, the vendors are the same people as the guests, and they both should follow rules that are implemented by the promoters. The difference being that the vendors have chosen to rent a table at the show, in hopes of selling more of their goods than they would be able to if they were to walk around the show carrying a their handful of goods.

I do not expect you to change your view on the subject, that would be unrealistic on my part. I am simply sharing my point of view on the subject: The rules should apply for both vendors and guests as they are outlined by the promoters of the show. I used the gun show as an example because they do typically have a set of rules for the vendors and a separate set of rules for the guests, although many of the rules are the same.

I believe that we should play by the rules, at this time, I am just trying to figure out what the rules are, from the promoters who are making the rules.

    Thanks,

    John

Fair question considering we did not specify that on the website.
Guests will not be allowed to bring animals into the show and participate in selling to the general admission crowd. If you are doing business with a vendor and they CHOOSE to do a trade with you, then you are more than welcome to go and get your animal, then present it to either myself or Angie. We will do a quick inspection and then you and the vendor can conduct your business privately.
Sales/trades to the general admission crowd are reserved strictly for vendors.
If we could all take our animals to shows and sell in the crowd....why would anyone pay to vend shows anymore? Myself included!!! :D lol

Feel free to email me or call if you have any questions.

I would recommend setting up a pre-arranged trade/deal with the particular vendor you are interested in and concluding your transaction close to closing time. (between 3-4pm)

Side note, Dr. White DVM may be onsite during the show, as much as he can be (unsure if he will be on call or not as of now)
He will be answering questions for both, guests and vendors. And any over-all animal health questions, that he feels comfortable with.
