Lamps can, and can't be necessary, depending where you live. I'm kinda growing tired of hearing people say this, because it's not like we all live on the same speck of land on this planet, nor do we have similar houses or rooms.

I HAVE to use a lamp for my BP. Simply because the room he is in isnt greatly insulated and the temps fluctuate to much and dip down to 65 degrees.
I use a humidity pad and a few sprays of mist every now and then to counter the lamp eating up the moisture.
But I would have to agree, I see people saying this all the time and cant help but think it really depends on where you live. I live in NY where both humidity and temps can range drastically so i use a heat lamp for balancing out.
Guess i COULD use a ceramic heating element. But honestly, I like the red light so at night I could see what he is doing while I sleep in my bed across the room.
