Actually, the bodies do have to work harder. Humans don't have the bacteria that ruminants have that break down plant fiber, it's also why ruminants chew cud: to better break down the plant material. Additionally, the antibiotics generally aren't in the meat at the time of slaughter. Most drugs have a half life and the animals wait a certain amount of time in pens for these to pass out of the system. This is generally done with the larger animals. I'm not sure how it's done with poultry.
I was discussing veganism with a few friends the other day. We all unanimously came up with the same question. Since petroleum/petroleum based products came from extinct animals, do vegans use oil/gas/petroleum/petroleum based objects?

Nice, I was a vegetarian for like a few months then I just stopped because it was to hard when my parents only make food with meat in it, or as the main food. I dont think I would bother being a vegan though....
I did it because meat kind of grosses me out, I cant stand it when its all bloody and stuff, and it gets old. I also dont like the whole idea of killing animals for it when theres other food thats just as good (or better).
I have to admit I do love bacon though... and buffalo wings :D
