Neither this guy or my Argentine use their climbing features a super whole lot, but they still do from time to time. I figure I’ll keep giving them the option and they use it whenever they feel like it

Re: 2018 Male Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname Red Tailed Boa Constrictor Progression
    Hey's looking great jmcrook!

Do you know his weight? What is he eating currently and how often?

I am curious of the growth rate versus Feliz (a dwarf Venezuelan BCC). Feliz was born end of September of 2017, so he's about 3 1/2 years old. He's currently on small rats every two weeks and 830G.

Jeff, my male BI, is growing faster than he was and is 2 and on weaned rats already. So that's male BI to male BCC, but I am curious about your guy, who will definitely be much bigger than Feliz when grown. If Feliz gets much over 5 feet, that would be surprising.

Meanwhile, I still have my female BI, Behira, on medium rats and she's 2.2kg at 4 3/4 years old.

Anyway, growth rate and food intake are pretty correlated, but I imagine male and female and dwarf vs. full size all make a difference. Don't know for sure, hence asking.

Sorry, don't mean to take over the thread at all. I appreciate the understanding in advance.

    He's gorgeous.

Check out that developing 'bulge' and elongated tail after the cloaca...looks like he might be nearing sexual maturity...It can be more difficult to see this change unless the critter is of perfect weight. Congrats on that sir.

My oldest male was 6 before he was sexually mature. I have a male from Vin R. that is three this year...he appears to be the same size as your guy but is not showing the male tail development yours is.

I had to go check on my 3 year old male after making that post. He just shed in the last hour so I gave him an examination...he is starting to show the signs but not as much as your stud.

Haha, you and me both my friend! Minus the video from a friend named Bryan :P

Seriously - snake #3 is only (tentatively) due to arrive next week and I've set some pretty good ground rules re: housing before expansion, yet I'm already imagining what snake #4 could be. There's so many nice snakes on this forum that are tempting me to pick up new species!

Re: 2018 Male Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname Red Tailed Boa Constrictor Progression
Thanks so much for the kind and generous comments, y’all! I haven’t weighed him since September which was ~650grams. Probably still <1000grams, but I’m a terrible judge of weight and could be wildly off in my judgments. He was also fasted from 11/1/2020-1/4/2021. All animals here slowed down in activity and shed frequency during that time. Some are only now entering their first shed since.

He’s currently eating small rats every ~2 weeks give or take which leave zero visible evidence of having been fed. I’ll probably order mediums with my next feeder stock up and see what they look like relative to his girth. If he takes a medium and it looks like a huge meal I probably won’t feed him for a month and then back off to smalls for a bit. Time will tell. I’m pretty well beyond the worries of regurge with a sensible feeding at this point

No rush for larger size/breedability and what not to contextualize with my comments in another somewhat contested thread on feeding for breeder growth here... [emoji57]

But if the animals grow at a healthy rate and show signs of being in good health I’ll happily let them do so.

Feast and famine according to their natural histories and individual body conditions.

My KSB does the same thing with his water bowl. Only he's big enough now that it's always "hipped up" on one side, but he won't use the bigger hide I got him. Like you said, whatever makes our scaly babies happy!

He’s deceptively smaller than he looks. Still sub 1000grams and a tad under 4’ I think at 3yo. He’s in a 4x2.5x2’ enclosure as of the last few weeks. Likely to be his forever home unless he gets much over 6’.
