Re: Solana - Our Scaleless Sunglow Motley Corn
Solana moved into Feliz's old 4X2' today. Feliz moved into a 6X2', he's fine.
She seems happy and should like the extra 1X2' feet of real estate. She moves around quite a bit.
Also, she's 330G dry now! I cannot believe it.

Are you sure it's safe to take her outside? You risk making the sun jealous...;)

I know, she is stunning. Of course, I can stare at her for longer than the sun without burning my eyes, so that's good!

Solana's growth has slowed a bit but she's still putting on weight eating an adult mouse every two weeks. Her body condition is good and she's a great snake. She's up to 335G dry now.

I know right... i thought she would be a bit duller when she got older but she's even more neon now....
I wonder if she'd glow in a blacklight... [emoji848]

Re: Solana - Our Scaleless Sunglow Motley Corn
Solana shed today. She still needs a little help most of the time, as she did today. Humidity seems fine, she just seems to get lazy after she gets the eyes and neck off. She was sleeping in her hide with 90% shed to go. I soaked her and helped a little and it all came off easy. This can be an issue for scaleless corns - trouble shedding - but often that it comes off in pieces and they need help. Not sure what her issue is, but luckily she has a loving papa who will help her if she needs it.
For what's worth, I've tried different humidity and it doesn't seem to matter too much.
Anyway, pictures!

Thank you Rich. She's really a great snake. She's so calm for a colubrid. Once she's out and supported she kind of chills like a boa. Curious, but not squirmy at all. As you can see from the in focus pics, she holds still pretty well. Very difficult to get Figment (Hypo-Lavender Corn) to do the same. Both are docile as can be and wouldn't hurt anyone, but Figment likes to move. Solana is just CHILL.
The dots down the back are the visual effect of the "Motley" gene in corns. It looks a little different than the Gene in Boas, but the same idea.

She's amazing in person. Her, Jeff (VPI T+ Sunglow Motley Jungle BI), and Yafe (albino Carpet Python), all seem so much better in person than the pics are able to show. There is much nuance and also "glow" that they have that pics do not seem to do justice.

Some pics and video of Solana! She's doing awesome. Such a sweet little girl. Front facing camera on the iPhone is not as good as the back cameras. It doesn't do a great job of capturing her colors, but you can get a good sense of her size and demeanor.

Thank you. Really, the camera doesn't do a good job with Solana or Jeff, for that matter. Their colors are much more intense than the camera usually shows.

Re: Solana - Our Scaleless Sunglow Motley Corn
Solana is doing great. Interesting to see her color showing differently in different lights. See her in my hand with the makeshift lighting I have right now while the basement is getting worked on. Then see her with the fluorescent light in her tank.

No. Back to her sweet self. She had an off day. What can you do? Better her then some of her bigger brothers and sisters :).
Her color is mesmerizing. I know many people do not like the scaleless thing, but her color is unique and she's soooooo soft too. Plus, got to love those Trans-Pecos type bulging eyes, right?

She does have "nice eyes" -I was noticing in your photos tonight. And yes, better her teeth than those of your larger ones. I love her energetic orange color- that's what I liked about Everglades rat snakes (that I used to keep). BTW, another docile rat snake that gets a bit bigger (longer) than TPs is a Baird's rat snake- colors quite variable (silver/grey with orange &/or yellow).

Seeing yours just makes me miss the one I had however many years ago. Even with my head swimming with the myriad of species I've come to know I still have this tugging feeling to try a corn again. Maybe someday...

Re: Solana - Our Scaleless Sunglow Motley Corn
Over the past month or so I've noticed the right side of Solana's mouth is open slightly more than her left side. Upon thorough investigation and a talk with both my friend Brian from Riverside Reptiles (who has a scaleless texas rat and also met Solana in person and saw what I did) and Don Soderberg (who bred her), we came to the conclusion that she has some plaque. She has one layer of scales around her mouth, but it's not a perfect seal. Further, when she goes into shed, her lips tend to pull back some.
Katie and I gently brushed her teeth with a small and soft paint brush. That got some off and I will revisit next week (she's in my office now with the rest of the crew while they finish working on the basement the rest of this week and next week). She was pretty good about it and I want to keep it from getting worse.
I wanted to share as aside from a needing help with some sheds, having a scaleless corn snake has been pretty hassle free. However, this is a new potential ongoing issue, although not major, I wanted to share with the forum.
Obvisouly, if it gets worse and not better, I will talk to and/or visit with the vet to get a proper solution to keep her mouth clean and brushed periodically. Don mentioned a few of his this happens about 1X a year. I did examine her mouth and the gums and the rest of her mouth look nice and clean with no signs of mouth rot or other issues. She has also been eating fine which is not a total indicator that everything is okay, but a good sign.

Re: Solana - Our Scaleless Sunglow Motley Corn
Between the light brushing and a recent shed, Solana seems pretty good RE her mouth. I do notice that when she's getting closer to shed, her mouth scales seem to tighten a little and expose her gums/teeth more.
Either way, I wanted to update for those who have or are interested in scaleless corn snakes and other scaleless snakes.
