as someone already mentioned....it could have been a number of things to set the sneezing off....dusty shavings, a sick rat, bad food, dirty tub.....to many variables.

one thing that many people get confused is cedar and pine..... two different trees....two different shavings. and one of the worst shavings to get is the "aroma" type such as lemon scent.

    just my opinions of course...

I only use Reptibark at this time. Haven't seen pine in my area (except for pine bark mulch), and seeing as I do not care for the scent of pine any time but at Christmas, then I just don't use it. Yes it would be cheaper, but why take a risk of harming my animals (it is not proven either safe or harmful), just for looks..which is something I can get with reptibark. I am allergic to pine pollen, and generally stay away from pine if I can. i do not even like pine scented cleaners for my home...so...No pine for me. :)

Just out of curiosity, what would it take to prove that pine, the dry kind, is not harmful to your snakes?

Conversely, what have you based your conclusion that it is detrimental to your snakes on? How much proof do you have and from whence did it come?

I'm wondering how many of you No pine users also go along with the world being flat.

You can just post yes if you do and no if you don't, no need for explanations, just a matter of curiosity.

Well there's your problem, pine shivings are notoriously dangerous. Pine shavings, however, are not.

I've been keeping snakes on pine shavings for over 30 years and have never had one issue. Not one. Let me repeat - nada.

Tell your, ahem, "friend" to try pine shavings next time. I guarantee his snakes won't die.

No, he meant pine shavings, the guy above him said shivings, it was a joke. (Insert emote for something flying over someone's head :P)

It doesn't seem anyone is qualified to give a clear yes or no on this. Although it is looking more and more to me like "PINE IS BAD" is something that people read when they get into the hobby and now that is considered true, whether it is or not.

I'll email BHB, maybe they will do a snakebytes episode on it

My friend who rides bikes crushed a testicle. My other friend, who rides trikes, didn't. Therefore, and conclusive beyond even the remotest shadow of a whisker of doubt, riding bkes causes cancer and riding trikes prevents it.

One of us is sarcastic, the other simply ignorant.

Which one do you think you are?

Not that it matters, but BHB uses pine as does EBV and many others.

:O Clearly I must go purchase a trike! I also like how it went from being a crushed testicle to cancer :P

Also, if everyone was a little more sarcastic the world would be a better place.
