Re: How much would a GTP cost a reptile show? average price.
I have seen them at a expo for $275 and I am sure at the end of the show you could talk them down, but I would never buy from them. Usually they are in a larger deli cup with no type of perch or humidity laying on the bottom. This animal does not look happy or healthy but some one will see the price and buy it and I feel this is the problem.
Yeah you come across your internet warriors but you have your expo nincompoops also. Vendors with animals in old utz pretzel containers, 20+ Ball Pythons in a ten gallon tank... I am sure we all have seen it. They do not care about the animal or YOU. They just want the money and do not care if you know your a__ from you elbow. I will never forget the one show I was at and one of the vendors sold an eight year old a TOKAY. I questioned the vendor and his response was " the kid wanted something for $10". I have seen vendors sell animals that are way to young and also sick animals. Anyway what I am trying to say is if the deal is to good it is. If you walk up to a table at the show and the person is already taking off money before talking to you, to me that is fishy.
Reptile Expos could be a really great thing for our community but the person running the show I feel really need to set a standard for these vendors.
As far as animals being over priced for the most part you pay for what you get. There is a lot of work that goes into what we do. The upkeep on the animals and records. Your talking hours and thousands of dollars we put out year after year to keep everything going. I hope this made some kind of sense...
