But like someone mentioned it saves them from an unhappy customer saying they received differing information from each store. There are plenty of people who think they know what they are talking about, and think they are helping, when in fact they are giving equally bad or worse advice than the official caresheet employees are supposed to abide by.

The big chain petstores rely on misinformed, uneducated people to buy their animals. Its worked for years, so why change? The money is coming in, so who cares if a few animals die? To us it's a poor helpless animal that died. To corporate it's just numbers, a business expense, a write-off. Sad but true.

I would have thought the only reason that they would misinform anyone is so that they buy the animal and all of the supplies on the spot from their store. I mean, you can inform someone the correct products to buy from petsmart and get by. Sure its not ideal, but their conditions will be ok.

My wife and I had to sign a contract that we were going to be taking care of the mice we purchased. I found it really odd especially since I had made it clear that they were going to fed to our snakes. The employee helping us told us that they weren't supposed to, but she didn't see why not. There was another employee there, a guy, that asked us outright if they were feeding, we said yes, and he said, "Awesome, what do you guys have?" I guess it really depends on where you go or who is on shift.

its nice to know that some employees would rather be comfortable with themselves then worry about a silly rule. I just wonder about the employee who owns a snake and knows that feeding live sometimes works better. Do they buy pet mice. just wondering

PSP is my place...I go there and get 4 mice & a small rat for like 8 or 9 dollars. Just about every week I get the rat for free too because of the "frequent feeders club"

Yea when I got Bustos I got my 20l there for like $40

They also had a real pretty light banded normal there the last time I went to get feeders, but the guy said they don't sex their snakes and I didn't really feel confident in my popping abilities and didn't want to buy a possible normal male for $55

You go on a do not sell list or something i guess. My husband had to brag that he had to feed off 20 rats today to my juvies. She told us then we will not sell you any mice or rats because its against company policy. This coming from a girl standing 10 feet from a display of snakes including corns, kingsnakes, ball pythons and an empty boa constrictor cage. I asked what they feed their snakes then and she told us that isn't her department and she didn't know. Im always amazed when people are so ignorant about snakes but are still willing to sell one to the public. This is the same person that probably never understands why snakes owners who buy from them let a 6 foot boa loose because they can't house it properly anymore because "petsmart" doesn't sell a tank that is large enough to house it. My rant for the day.

I love dealing with idiot customers in retail that blame hourly employees for company policies. And oh my god, it must be so horrible of an idea to keep someone OUT of the department if they don't know what they are doing.

then their supposed vets are nothing but jokes.

And it certainly couldn't be that your local store isnt following its own policy?

I didnt say that it was totally the hourly employees fault. and if you would have read on you would have seen that. Its the companies. and I did admit that. and I dont see where it was mentioned for anyone being kept out of a department for not knowing anything.
This may not be standard thru the stores, but typically you go to the chain stores over here and they cant help you much except to sell you useless things for your reptile pets. Its even in that department. I know I am not the only one around who feels that way. as I have seen complaints everywhere.. From all the states...
I have taken my 2 foot long bearded to petsmart with me.. And I have been told "hey, Nice Iguana" or I have been told I dont feed my dragons properly, they are over fed and un healthy.. Thats news to me but still.
I have also been yelled at for that dismayed customer walking down the isle trying to figure out what is needed for their childs pet because they are confused about what to choose. and I suggested something outside of the caresheet.
Stuff happens people get misinformed we all know this. I think the whole point of the story was actually the amazement of being told that you do go on the do not sell list for rodents because you feed live.

But I don't care about the whole animal cruelty part behind live rodents as long as it isn't the snake being abused with ignorant snake keepers (too many bad pictures of injured snakes who were left unattended with their food running through my mind).

Wanna see pics of my "common" mice or even rats? They are quite fancy and pretty. And look just as good as the pets. Actually my first breeder male(mouse) came from petco. Because I didnt want all plain white mice.
None of the snakes care what color they are so I have mostly fancy since it adds other enjoyment to breeding the mice or rats
