We would love to rent a house, but most around here are either too expensive or have a crappy pet policy (one small dog or 1-2 cats, no caged pets).

This is Richmond. If the apartment is cheap (like ours) it is crap. If the apartment/house is the slightest bit nice it's expensive as heck. At least for us. Wonderful, 3 bedroom house, fenced in back yard, no pet policy (said you can have whatever animals you want, just as long as the carpet and hardwood floors are kept nice), 1200 in rent a month, wonderful location. The high rent would require roommates and it was available starting this month, and its already taken. Our lease isn't up until November. Rah! So, places are available now (go fast too) and we have to have 60 day notice of leaving, so how do you go about getting a new place? If the house is available now but you can't move out till November but you have to give 60 day notice, so that means you have to find somewhere to move now-ish? How the heck does this all work?

Reading your rent prices makes me sad. $1600 a month here, 2 bd, 2 bath apt. with a small front porch, no cats/dogs :(

I was in a similar situation that you are - thankfully, the person ended up leaving sooner, then later.

    1600!:O:O

We are looking on Craigslist now to see if we can find anything. Found two hopefuls. Maybe 3. We shall see.

Wow, I knew other cities were high, I didn't think it was that bad. Well if actually moving doesn't work, maybe just tell them you are going to move and they(roommates) need to be out sooner so you won't get in trouble with the apt complex. And then just don't move out. Whatever you come up with Good Luck! Let us know how it goes.
