I cannot stand deer meat.. it gags me. Don't know why, it always has a horrible gamey taste everytime I have eaten it. Like lamb.

    I however LOVE.

    Elk
    Moose
    BEAR BURGERS.. YUM
    Buffalo
Llama (yes I have eaten llama, his name was rampage, and he became meat for a reason)
Shark, OH I love the shark meat. Jerkey, steaks.. Can't eat it that often though. Too much mercury.

Well, of course. But usually (at least in slaughter houses) they cut the animal when it's alive to take out the guts. It's dead when it's cut up.
Even with hunting, it's hard to imagine what the animals go through. Hunters don't always hit the head or heart so the animal goes through alot of pain and is still alive when it's cut open.

You have never witnessed anything that really happens in a slaughter house have you? I have and the animals are DEAD before they touch them.;). Now the hunter part.If the hunter loves the meat after the kill he does make sure its a clean kill ;).I know several hunters that will set in a blind all day before they even think about pulling a trigger or release a arrow. The reason is because they wait for the one shot = clean kill.

I would take a humanely shot, drop-dead deer over a slaughtered cow anyday. I know that all hunters are not pros, and it takes time to learn. But real hunters want a clean kill. In terms of profit, this means less damage to the meat and the deer hide, which can either be sold to a furrier or self-tanned for a neat trophy. But a real woodsman/woodswoman feels a connection to nature and a deep respect for their quarry.. a fast kill is paramount.
I could go on about the benefits of hunting on deer populations. It thins the herd, as natural predators once did before we killed most of them off.

I am pretty lucky...My step dad hunts and does very well every year. He grew up in West by God Virginia and had a gun in his hand, huntin for dinner at quite an early age. He takes hunting very serious as it was a way of survival for him. Anyho....he is a pretty dang good hunter. He gives me lots of deer meat to keep me happy. My husbands friends all hunt also so we get meat from them too.

I don't really care what piece of the deer you get or how old it is...If you marinade it long enough with the right ingredients..ugghhhh.....It will melt in your mouth! It is my favorite meat. I also like to make deer bbq, deer stew, deer gravy.

Geesh now I am gonna have to cook some for dinner...my mouth is totally watering now.
