Hog island boas are especially 'fond' of rubbing. In fact, my hoggie rubbed her nose raw, and she has no nostrils anymore (scar tissue covered them)

I kept moving her to new enclosures to try to find something she couldn't hurt her nose on (from a screen lid to a plastic lidded rubbermaid).. but she kept rubbing. My vet told me that they keep rubbing and pushing on the lid if they feel any 'give' to it, so I moved her to a boaphile cage which is solid on top, and she has never rubbed again.

my hubby should be home from work at noon... and then we are gluing the stones in place... after 24 hours we can do the grouting and get the front door completed...

well it looks like it's going to take a bit longer... but we should have it completed by next weekend (as my hubby works 18 hour days during the week)...

we are grouting the rock today as the 'experts' wanted us to leave it longer than 24 hours since the rock is so heavy.

we have the glass for the front door... 36"x18" and i need to go out and pick up the vents today (getting heavy duty plastic ones)

i heard from dave and tracy barker... as i sent them a link to this thread and asked them what their advice was... they feel his swelling is from rubbing and gave my vet some suggestions... which i forwarded to my vet's email addy...

i can't wait to get this done!!!

Just for you Aleesha. From the pics in your other thread, it seems as though Drake is gonna have one awesome new home when it's all completed. So, to pass the time until next weekend, here you go.

yes this is an old thread but i wanted to give you all an update on drake. he loves his enclosure... http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=49434

and he's no longer rubbing that i'm aware of. his face is a bit more 'swollen' than it was but it hasn't increased in size in a long time now.

as for being able to see people. well he's a total show off. absolutely the perfect snake to be in the kind of enclosure we keep him in. whenever people come over he knows it and immediately begins his slow 'show off' in front of the glass. he slithers around... allowing us all to enjoy his beauty.

as many of you may remember... he was supposed to be a pure-bred but alas, he's a cross. it's sooooo obvious that he's a cross since he doesn't those beautiful hog island colours... instead he's rather muted in colour but he's still our grumpy little snake. he never leaves his enclosure anymore... but i figure he's maybe 4'... i'd be surprised if he's 5' in length. (since he's a cross we figured he'd get larger but he hasn't)

all in all... he's a happy snake living a life of luxury... water, heat and a regular supply of tasty live mice (as he will NOT eat anything that doesn't move). he would love to eat my mini-daxi dogs... but thankfully the glass between him and then holds firm!

anyway... just thought i'd gift an update to those of you who remember him... (and me)
