Re: Why is Gas so expensive?
I agree, Amy. It's not just supply and demand. It's speculation, manipulation and manipulated speculation controlled by some of the largest corporations, richest people and most powerful governments in the world.

I like your oppinion.
And I think that your oppinion is closer to the truth than anything that I have seen lately.
I think that as with any THING, companies will charge what they think that the market will pay. Apple sells the iPod shuffle for $80. I am sure that it does not cost more that $10 to make. But they would never sell it for $60, that would be $20 dollars less profit.

The intial "War" with Iraq when they started all the oil fields on fire, yes it caused it to go higher. The oil fields in Iraq all almost all back in operation, they don't have much to do with the prices anymore. Here is a quote from a paper.
"Chevron released its results after two of its biggest rivals, ConocoPhillips (COP) and ExxonMobil (EXM), already provoked public outrage with similarly large first-quarter profits. Combined, the three oil companies earned $15.7 billion during the three months of the year.
Oil and gas companies are enjoying an unusually robust quarter, propelled largely by the surge in oil prices due to fears of supply disruptions and booming demand in Asia."
I bolded the main part of that. Prices aren't high because of the cost of crude oil. They "fear" disruptions, they didn't have any disruptions, just feared them. You can believe whatever you want, I will believe the bottom line is the same as every other cooporate company, profit margin. They will do and say whatever they can to get the higheest profit margin they can. As long as people believe their excuses, they will continue to give them.
I'm not going to argue this anymore, have a nice day.

Anyone know how much oil Iraq puts out every year???
According to http://education.yahoo.com/reference...lTGc_Ps93PecYF
its 2,250,000 barrels a year..they are the 14th higest producer of oil in the world..
Can any one guess whos in the top three...We are at 7,800,000 barrels a year. Thats twice the oil produced in Iraq every year.
Can any one tell me why we still have to by oil from over sees...Cause years ago congress at the request of Regan froze distribution of US fossil fuels in a hopes to conserve them know why???
cause the same study puts us at the top of the list in consumption with 19,650,000 barrels a year..
in the year 2000 the US only had 283,230 million with an oil consumption of 18 million barrels a year
India and China both have over 1 billion people and had less than half the oil comsumption.
What is happening is this yea the war plays a little part in it. But its supply and demand..They have it we want it so they see want we'll pay for it.. simple as that.

i live in one of those rural areas where you have to drive EVERYWHERE (45min. drive to get rats every week) but, honestly, i don't care about gas prices at all. they are what they are and i'm not gonna change my lifestyle because of it. and, no, i'm not rich... no where near it. as for the people who drive several miles to work a low paying job, i can tell you that at least 75% of those people could find somebody to ride with and split the cost. my boyfriend has never had any trouble finding someone to ride with when he needed it. most people don't do it just because they don't want to. you hardly ever hear people looking for somebody to carpool with. they just don't wanna.

This is the reason why they keep raising prises because we have a national attitude like above. Not that its a bad thing but we can't as a nation say "i'll pay what you charge" and get up set when they bump prices 50 cents a month.

Re: Why is Gas so expensive?
No one has mentioned my theory....the giant Oil monster! :taz:
It's a giant monster, much like the ancient beast from norse mythology, Leviathan.
It feeds on Oil. The Oil companies joined together and bound it in a secreet location, much like the way the Pirates Council bound The Sea Goddess.
The Oil companies have to raise oil prices so they can feed this growing monster.
Thats the real conspiricy.
