It's really not that complicated to dispatch prey items humanely. In my opinion, some people are too lazy or uncaring to do it a proper way, so they argue that their way is not inhumane...:(

Phew........Glad I feed live. No moral decisions on my part. Ozzy made that choice for me.

But I have to say to consider rodents or prey items not animals is just not right.

Watch any undercover video about how cattle, chickens etc. are treated and you'll soon realize that humane actions to kill these animals is an occasional thing, I've seen more beatings and executions of animals we all take for granted as we place our order at Mc Donalds and eat with our happy families then I would ever like to, I think it's important that while playing god, and telling an animal when it will die is something we should all respect and do in a manner in which helps us stay the smarter more compassionate animal in the group.
If I could choose to either a) be smacked against a wall...which MIGHT kill me...big word being might...if not I will have to be smacked again and again...all while being scared.... or b) be taken down by a large snake that will kill me, sufficate me yes, but will get the job done the first time...then I would choose the 2nd one.
I mean these feeder rats we born to be fed to snakes not beaten against human objects...some might be able to argue that cows are bred to be eaten....and yes for those who choose to eat them they are....but nothing is bred to be beaten!!!

IMO as long as the animal doesn't suffer its Humane. Cervical Dislocation at the next is humane as is whacking IMO. My oppinion is based on experience I have had in killing many many rodents that was. I have yet to have one suffer as long as they do when being constricted. Constriction for a large rat may take quite a while and always takes more than the 5 seconds it takes to do 2-3 whacks on the wall

You couldn't be more wrong. Cervical Dislocation is one of only two accepted methods of humane euthanasia of rodents. Whacking isn't the other. Why is this so hard to understand?

Its not hard to understand at all. Its just that Whacking is also quicker and what I would consider less painfull than constriction

I think the discussion is what's a more humane way for a keeper to kill prey items. A Ball Python has no idea what's humane or not humane...

There are several options available to keepers. Why pick smacking it against a wall. My guess is because it's the easiest. Doing things the right way is not always the easiest way.
