Re: Den site destroyed - all snakes killed
I went over every inch of their yard and found nothing except chopped up parts of older garter snake kills.

I was lifting everything, looking in every hole, going thru the stone walls, etc. I looked everywhere and could not find one living snake there.

Hopefully with the cooler weather coming now, they will not see anymore snakes.

I did get a promise that they would not kill any more snakes and would call me first.

No matter what I said, they have their minds made up that snakes are no good. No matter how many times I tried to convince them that snakes do not stalk people and that these snakes do not spit poison, they did not believe me. I almost lost my temper but held back when they started talking about how dangerous hognose snakes are or when they gave me the graphic details of the snake they doused with gasoline and lit on fire. They thought it was hysterical that the flaming snake took off and they could see the fire in the stome wall where the snake fled. Too bad he didn't bolt into their house. That would have made them think twice about pulling a stunt like that again.
Their kid is just as bad as them but I blame it on the parents. Kids learn what their parents teach. My kids know to respect and not fear snakes and they can ID every native snake we see in the wild. My kids learned this from me just like their kid learned to hate and fear snakes from them.

Hopefully they will keep their promise and not randomly kill them anymore.

It sucks Joe. People are so stupid sometimes.

I got a call to get a snake when I was on the phone with you once (btw that killer turned out to be friggin worm snake - oooh scary LOL).
Why couldn't these people just call or walk down a few houses? They have my number and know what house is mine.
They know their neighbor will remove them but they kill them instead.
One of these days they are going to try and kill a copperhead, miss, get tagged, and end up in the ER.
I know they cannot ID a copperhead since the pieces of garter snake I found were what they called a copperhead. Not even remotely close in pattern or color with a garter and a copperhead.

The girl is 8 years old (same grade as my daughter), the father is about 50, and the mother is about 45.

Yea i remember that RESCUE lol.Hey we have the same here,we have watermoccasins(spelling) around a some of the lakes we fish.Long story short i get into a detailed discussion numerous times a year with people who do not beleive we have them here:rolleyes: .I recently stopped trying to inform these people and just mind my own bussiness now.I look at it this way WE know what they are and leave them alone to live in peace.People are just to lazy or ignorant or even both to use some common sense anymore:mad: .Hey do you have any skunks in your area maybe they will think its a kitty cat and mess with it :P .

I know i may get beaten to a pulp for this, so i know it isn't the case for everyone so i don't mean to offend anyone here by any means.

I feel like people from that generationish have strong stigmas about snakes (i am not saying everyone i repeat not everyone!!!)
For instance my father hates snakes (im amazed he ever let me get one to begin with) he told me about days where he chopped up snakes, until i began throwing myself infront of the shovel, now he just leaves them alone and says hey Mike i saw a snake over there.... uhh you better move it before i do. I know he is just kidding, i think i have gotten him to respect them, it only took around 10 years to accomplish it. And he would say that it isn't becaus ehe is scared of them but because he flat out didn't like em.

Now my grandparents are a whole nother level!!!!
