Well he'll almost certainly get bigger than he is now.. he's just a baby.. he's got that baby face still. Realistically expect 5' or more.. I've heard of some that stay real small, but my girl is 6' and I've seen bigger pure hoggies.

Still.. they're not a dangerous snake.. and your guy will settle down with age and handling.

i've heard from gus (in the link i posted) and he was very helpful. first and foremost he said that often times, people who do cross breed sell off their most 'hoggie looking' snakes to another breeder as a true hoggie and it can be very hard to tell the difference when they are young... but they show up in the babies they produce. so... my breeder probably got a hoggie which he believed to be true and so, in gus' opinion, my breeder was most likely a victim of this as well.

he also says that there is a lot of variety in hoggies, including a very dirty-brown look and most everything in between to a light silvery boa.

and he shares the opinion that drake does display a lot of the characteristics of a Hog Island X Colombian (or CA) intergrade and he agrees it probably is one.

His final comment was "That is a pretty snake whatever it actually is." :wuv:

so... i'll just continue to love and raise him... and never ever even consider breeding him even if asked by someone. the cross stops here!

i haven't heard from my breeder yet but i'm sure i will. it's always hard to get ahold of him... even when you are coming out to buy something LOL

The only problem I would see is if the breeder sold him as a pure Hog Island and knew he wasn't (which if he produced him, he would have known). Do you mind me asking how much you paid for him? If I am being nosy let me know. There should be a big price difference between a pure and a cross. Pure Hog Island Boas go from around $200 for what a breeder might consider "a not very pretty" Hoggie to $500 for super reduced pattern ones. Regardless of the situation, he is very pretty and will be a wonderful snake for you! I just like to know that I got what I paid for... :)

well that's kinda my situation. i've heard from the breeder. he says he didn't breed him but he knows for certain that he is 100% hog island boa... no cross. so i've asked him for the lineage cause if he is a true hog... i'd like to be able to prove it ;)

    i paid $300 - he was listed at $375.

So $300 Canadian (eh) is about $270 US. That is without a doubt Pure Hog pricing in my opinion. I'd be interested to see what he comes back with on the lineage.

absolutely... i paid for a pure hog... and was told before i bought him that he was. i asked if he was nice and orange and he told me that depending on the time of day... his colours changed a lot. i personally haven't seen any colour changes to orange since i got him. but... in fairness... i'm sure the breeder wasn't down there checking for colour variences either.

i loooove drake, don't get me wrong... but i really did want the orange tail... as the light face of your hog jamie... and the orange tail is what i fell in love with! it was the pic of your hoggies face that made me decide to get one heehee

well... i've heard from the breeder ...

"Both parents look like hogs, that's as much as I know about them. I admit he is an unusual looking hog, when I first saw him he stood out from the rest of the litter, that's why I bought him in the first place. Is it possible that somewhere along the line one of the parents has some Columbian blood, maybe, who knows? It certainly didn't look like it..."

i just wish he'd been honest from the start. :rainon: when i first inquired about him being pure, if he had said, "to the best of my knowledge, yes he is" that would have been fine for me and i wouldn't be upset... but having him say he's 100% hog and now saying he's not sure... that doesn't feel fair to me.

oh well... he's still a gorgeous snake! :wuv:

one more thing... if you are in canada and are planning on buying a snake from a breeder in british columbia... please feel free to pm or email me and i'll let you know who this breeder is.

bottom line: he guaranteed me 100% that drake was pure and kept saying that until his last email where he admited he really didn't know if he was or not - so what he guarantees cannot be taken as fact :( and you need to treat for mites (as drake came with mites but i wasn't told about them until i contacted him and told him - his response was that he knew about his 'ongoing mite problem' but didn't think they would have affected my snake.)

i hope this post is taken as a willingness to share my experience and not an attempt to bash the breeder. i love the ball python i purchased from him last year... but i certainly won't ever buy from him again.
