She made gorgeous babies with a fair amount of striping and jungle type patterns. I had gotten her from a friend when she got out of snake keeping/breeding. All the babies were excellent feeders...never hesitating to strike. :D

Haha i hear ya. I'm 48 as well and assuming my snakes and especially my little gila live to their golden years, I'll be around 78 by then......I'll be that weird old man with snakes and lizards lol.

Sounds like we’ll have quite the club. We’ll be the life of the party in the senior community. :D

This just reminded me of a discussion on a now-gone snake forum, that we ought to get a group-living arrangement/community going so we can all be there to
help each other handle their big boas [as we get older], "snake-sit", & all that. I can see the regulations now: MUST HAVE SNAKES. We were only half-joking.
That's one of the big problems of large constrictors: it's not always convenient to have a group of snake-savvy friends on hand for safety, so most of us take
chances doing things alone or with fewer standing by than we should have.

Safety is one of the biggest reasons I’m not looking at adding any more of the larger boas, even though I love them. I really don’t have many friends that will help with my snakes, so they have to be safe solo handling. I’m also trying to plan for as many contingencies as I can, as I plan to keep everything for its lifetime or mine, whichever comes first. I really love the ball pythons, and added 8 different morphs last year that I really liked or had wanted for years. I’ve looked at a couple of different smaller pythons as well as considering a gtp for my Mom, but believe I’m set for now. Maybe. Probably. I think.

I can see us now, in our seniors with their reptiles community.
Hey Bogert, hold my walker while i pick up Athenas tail off of the ground.
Don't brake your hip, Zina! Oh, I won't if Dianne will shuffle over here a little faster and help me get her back in her cage..
Oh, I'm coming I'm coming. Now, where did I put my glasses! Bogert, are you wearing my glasses again?
What? Where? Who?
meanwhile...Athena slithers away silently..

 Yeah, now I'm picturing some heavy-duty walkers with pouches to carry our snakes? "What could go wrong?"
