Disabled Snake

It is easier than he thought (for now) however she still will not track or strike the food, he has to actually hold her head and push the mouse nose into her mouth a little. Once the whole entire mouse nose is in her mouth she will gladly open and take it.

It sounds like she's making progress at least. If you can get it just that extra bit better to where you can just put it up to her face and she'll take it without it being put into her mouth, that should be sustainable and not an issue. Glad you got your money back too.

Makes me wonder if she can smell or sense heat at all? Great she is eating though.

Honestly, the way she acts when the food is right there in front of her....not sure she can sense heat at all.
My son wiggles it and goes back and forth and tries all kinds of things to get her interested, but she just turns and goes the opposite direction.

As long as he is capable of getting the food into her he is going to give it the best try he can. :)

There's no reason that a tongue deformity would make her unable to sense heat. The pit organs are not part of the same system as the tongue or even the eyes. Reduced sensory ability might just make the prey less appealing though.

Hi!!!
So we know you aren't really supposed to weigh them after feeding, but on 3/26 she was assist fed a small mouse.
The next day was her Dr appt and the Dr. had to weigh her and she weighed in at 106 g. (Remember this is about 24 hrs after eating)

So yesterday she was assist fed again and we decided to weigh her today (day after eating) since her last weigh in at the vets was also a day after feeding.

Today she is 129 g.

Good weight gain in 10 days?

Going to start from now on weighing her right before her meal.

Do remember that at for least 48 hours after eating, no snake should ever be handled

First, I haven't posted in a while and I am really sorry this has become such an ordeal for you. However, glad she is eating, even if it is assist feeding.

Secondly, I would weigh after she goes to the bathroom. Empty weight is much more consistent. Food weighs different amounts, and it can be hard to see how much she really weighs. Also, really hard to know if she's grown at all from that description.

We have seen no poop at all since he got her. That's over a month.

We did mention that to the vet when we took her in and he felt around and he said at that time he didn't feel anything wrong..

SHE DID IT! She ate by herself!
Had to hold the mouse real still and move it around her face from side to side and she started to move away like she always does...then followed her nose around and kept putting it in her face for over 5 min.... Then all of a sudden she stopped and just stared at it. The BAM!

I cried... No really I did... And My son ia ecstatic!
