Most of my family is ok with my snakes. When I got my first bp my grandma couldnt even be in the same room as her, now she doesnt care as long as the snake doesnt touch her (she thinks theyre slimmy i think). Everytime im holding one of them, my dad will say theyre nasty 50% of the time, and touch/hold them the other 50% of the time, which makes no sense lol. The best comment i got was from a classmate. I was showing my snakes to my math teacher because she also keeps reptiles, and a girl just sees the snake on my phone( a ball python that fits on my hand) and tells me: "OMG YOURE CRAZY THAT THING IS GONNA KILL YOU!!" I just showed her the picture of that same ball python totally balled up on my hand(the first day i got her) and she fell in love with the snake and spent like 15 minutes going through my phone looking at pictures of my snakes and asking all kinds of serious questions about snakes, and we became friends after that. I thinkt most people are scared of snakes because they only hear bad things about them, and they probably never even met a snake. Many of my friends ask me to take the snakes to school (needless to say, thats a big nope) and some of them actually ended up coming to my house just to meet them and hold them. I love changing the way people see these beautiful, misunderstood animals. Even my 6 year old sister who was scared of snakes and spiders now loves both of my snakes and my tarantula (my tarantula is pink, so i guess that helped a lot lol)

My snakes have been the first ones held by many people and anyone that knows me isn't surprised I have so many. If I do get a negative reaction I give them an equally snotty explaination about how there's no need for irrational fears. This is my 85 year old grandmother touching a snake for the first time. She held her normal after I took a quick pic and took her from my son.

I was scared to tell my parents that I had a 'python' so I told them at first that I had a corn snake. My stepdad was immediately on the internet researching them and wondering aloud why he looked nothing like them. After that I told the truth. Now my stepdad is helping to make a giant enclosure for me out of this old fishtank, and my mom is totally fine holding him and stuff.

My friends know but none of them really like snakes. I was excitedly bragging at school and anyone I know was pretty much creeped out and also interested. They wanted to see photos. Even people who were really curious would mention that they couldn't feed mice, which is fair. Nobody seemed particularly on the positive spectrum, haha, but they've also never seen him in person, which I think changes everything. He's so docile that it's hard to dislike him, and his bright banana colouring is fun to look at.

My boyfriend on the other hand, asks me about him, but was not happy that I bought a snake at all. The reason being that he personally believes that snakes are not meant to be pets. Where he is from, in Mexico, geckos line the walls. To him a captive snake seemed inhumane, but he was happy that I was happy. He hasn't met him yet, but maybe when he does his mind will change. I really don't believe that my snake is miserable.
