This has been a weird subject since I got into Bp's in 07& everybody has their ways and opinions so here's mine:

Everyone said the tank was too big, needed cycle bulbs, identical hides yada yada yada. Look it's all dependent on the animals well being. I've never ran bulbs of any kind, warm side of the tank, then cool side so if they get a little too warm they come out and adventure for a little bit then right back to the hide.

(Edit: will be adding another to the collection and going to a rack system soon but this is good information IMHO for the OP)

My male has been in a 40g breeder his whole life with uth, herpstat1 an rbi hide, water dish and a little branch, if they feel secure they won't pick one side over the other, too warm they come out and explore for a little bit to thermoregulate. My female Mojave has an identical setup in a 75g. Never refuses a meal, sheds spotless etc. as long as they eat, shed, hide and aren't active all the time (that's the sign something is wrong, they're pretty standard boring pets lol) you're doing fine.

As for handling they don't benefit. I went maybe a year with only touching them for feeding and as long as they aren't stressed (where you'll get that defensive strike) handling is for you and you only.

Bottom line is these are not over complicated pets to take care of, once the setup is good if you don't pick them up for 2 years they're not gonna care and won't be any different than 2 years ago, make sure your husbandry is spot on and everything else will sort itself out.
