Absolutely, set on a hill and pick them off a mile away haha. This is overkill for just about every game.....unless you're hunting elephants lol.

You absolutely can, and it's needed. Elephants are about as destructive as land mammals come, outside of humans, even to their own environment.

The various places that the African governments want to implement population control measures are capable of being hunted. They sell a hunting experience to rich westerners. The ivory is harvested by the governments (possibly destroyed?); the meat is distributed to local tribes/villages.

You can hunt them via rifle, big calibers for a double lung shot, giant calibers (big nitro express rounds for example) for 10 yard straight on though-the-forehead-brain-shot, and there are even plenty of bow-kills on youtube. A typical bow setup is with HEAVY arrows, BIG (300+ grain) fixed blade broadheads (better penetration than mechanicals), and 100lb draw compound bows. Many shots at elephants take place under 30 yards, even with firearms. Big, dangerous, close :D

If you dont get to keep the ivory why would you want to kill one? Id have the skull, tusks and all, shipped back to my house. People would try and show me their lame deer and elk skulls and id be like "check out my fricken elephant skull. Yea, i took it down myself, nbd."

For the experience, a photograph, and bragging rights are probably what motivates those guys. If you want to control your elephant population, why not charge some british guy 20 grand to let him do it for you?

    Hey CaGirl,

Sorry if someone else asked this, I have not read past page one yet.

I was thinking about picking up a AR-15 for my long term girlfriend, she is a very small girl though 5ft 100lbs. How much does your AR weight with a loaded 30rd mag? Any advice that you could offer me as far as making it more comfortable to shoot? I have a ton of ideas but wanted to get some information from an end user. I'd prefer to do this in 5.56/.223 but it may have to be .22.

    Thanks,
