Show us your set-ups

There's a difference between animal abuse and a plain set up. A plain set up is fine, but so is a more decorated one as long as the animal is properly taken care of. I know there's a big conflict about tubs VS tanks, but I think they're both fine as long as the husbandry is good.
Sure, more large decorative tanks are a bit harder to maintain. However, if the owner is willing to put effort into it, I think they shouldn't be criticized, neither should the people with more simple set ups. It's all about proper care, not how it looks. :)
Unfortunately, I can't access a picture of my set up, but I do have my ball pythons in a reptile basics cage, it's a bit big but I put enough things in it for my ball pythons to feel secure. I use hides because of this, if they're in a rack I don't see it as necessary, although I plan to use both in the future, I like putting the snakes I will most likely keep forever in that type of cage.
Anyway, I think we shouldn't fight about whether a flashy cage is better than a non-flashy one and vise versa unless these things get in the way of proper husbandry. :D

word miko.word.marleys herp vet has a slew of snakes in tubs done minimilistacly.he keeps his reptile room 78degrees and uses uths and aspen substrate and just a water dish.he doesnt even use thermos or hygros and his snakes thrive and he has one snake in a super enclosure with everything on display.i just put myself in the snakes mindframe.where is my jungle jim at night ahhhhhh?????my bp goes on adventures during the night in her enclosure its funny.then she watches me play cod black ops for a bit then goes to her nightly business.i wish i got into this earlier in life.the bond between a snake and caretaker.i think an old fashioned navajo would frown on all of us keeping snakes.they believe its taboo to handle em or watch them eat.:O

mark and marley I didn't mean you at all, It was a general statement not pointed I have absolutely no idea how you keep your animals I was making no judgement just a plain statement that some one who cares will have a set up that is healthy and will have healthy snakes against the uncaring keeper whom likely should never have bought the animal in the first place and just got it because it was cool... tub tank enclosure makes no difference it is attitude that matters.

Personally, I like to hold my snakes, it's very calming and therapeutic to me. One of my ball pythons, Ghost seems very indifferent or he likes to be out. Perhaps he's just curious, but he seems to roam and stick his head up in the air to look around. While my other ball python, Lucy seems to be quite the scardy cat, lol. She is usually really timid at first but then becomes a bit more social, but not as social as Ghost. I think it depends on the snake and the owner whether or not they handle their snakes more than just checking on them and cleaning. Bonding isn't necessary, but I personally like handling my snakes and it doesn't seem to bother them. :)
I personally think a thermometer and a hygrometer are necessary, because if I didn't have either I would probably be a bit confused on where my husbandry is, but that's just me.

i love holding my bp it is the same for me.you cant really bond with a reptile just gain a trusting relationship because apparently reptiles lack or just that the emotional part of the brain is significantly smaller than mammals.marley is hesitant to come out of her enclosure but once she recognizes my scent its on and she is wrapped up on me everywhere and i have to fight her to get her in her enclosure when im trying to go to bed.shes like a young child that doesnt wanna sleep in her crib.once i get her back in her enclosure she keeps looking at me and trying to get out its funny.her favorite place is my neck or acting like a hair tie like in my avatar or going in my shirt and relaxing on my belly.she also likes to watch my fish.my convict cichlid was terrified when i introduced the two of course seperated by the aquarium wall.Marley positoned for a strike and Doc the convict took off shooting gravel cause thats how fast he moved.but now they just stare at each other its rediculous.i wonder what the two are thinking.the navajos with old beliefs follow that not me.im not navajo.i was just talking to one of my friends today and their beliefs on snakes.they are protectors and healers and shouldnt be disturbed.if you harm one, more aggressive snakes will seek you out.if you watch em eat youll have stomach problems later in life.another example of personal beliefs and opinions.i used to have stomach issues but i dont really have em anymore.coincidentally after Marley came into my life.hmmmm

I know you were already "scolded" by the other members, but I have to add that MANY professional breeders use flat newspaper... my snakes all live in tubs, mostly with newspaper as bedding, since I'm allergic to wood-based beddings. Carefresh is the only one I can tolerate, so I give that to the colubrids who like to burrow. Anyway, I have 26 snakes, and not one has ever gotten a "paper cut" (LOL) or been sick.

As for the hides, all but one of my snakes has as least one - the snake who doesn't is Nerissa the BP, as she really doesn't care for them. I tried offering a hide when she first arrived, and she'd only flip them over or knock them around... so instead she coils behind her water dish, or makes a newspaper "tent" to hide under.

P.S. When a snake has only one hide, they can create temperature gradients themselves... my snakes move their hides frequently, to wherever the preferred temperatures currently stand.

if you have 26 snakes id expect alot of em to be in a minimal tub enviroment not if you only have 4.but whatever his snakes healthy and my snakies vet keeps his slew of reptiles in tubs.its over.psychophobia didnt even make a stink out of my comment like the rest did.i commend him for that.if i hear anything else about this i will sacrifice a locust to the scorpion im getting this weekend!!!!!ahhhhhhhhhh:rage:

One of mine has 2 hides in a rack why I bother I don't know she just moves one around here and then and shoves the other out of the way... exercise right?? :P
