lol so he wouldnt be able to reach his side arm but you can get to your pocket knife? And I know what his MOS was in the army and can assure you its not just a BS excuse to have a gun. But then again had you actually read the entire thread instead of just skimming and attacking 1 point of my post you would have seen were he responded himself. he says he also takes in several other items. I find it funny that every one attacks my because I said he takes in a side arm for a LAST RESORT and compleatly ignores the good advice I gave. Even some one who just admited he goes in armed is going to attempt to attack me. That is funny. I try to give some one some advise and Im attacked. So much for "the friendliest online community".

Amen... i love this forum.... but there are a lot of rediculous insults and such to people reachin out for help. I think if we all lived under the same roof, we could all get along... but the power of not knowing who our little fingers type to seems to give us the power of insulting. Sad.

Good point about the baby handling, don't reinforce their behavior by letting them scare you off. I mean't when they get older but didn't specify.

Lol..LOl....LOL....LOL......So what you are saying is if this snake, my snake once again I am said OWNER OF THE SNAKE WAS TO GET ME THEN I WOULDN'T HAVE TIME TO PULL THE GUN BUT MY KNIFE...Ok so the nine years I spent in the military didn't give me enough time to carry a gun so now I have a reason i own a large snake, and b/c of this i can carry a gun LMAO, WTF. I have never heard this before thats a new one. I guess in your defense you didn't read what I posted above about the other precautions set in place by me in order to work with this snake.

You should go a read that, then drop your 2 cents worth, before coming to me and telling me to carry lemon juice and a Knife.... OMG, So funny, Thanks though I needed the laugh.
I guess maybe I could pull a knife faster, but according your realization of the facts, I won't have enough time to pull my gun, because she is so fast, but I could a knife and some lemon juice. once again WTF. How do you even admit to such a stupid comment.......I'm sorry I'm not calling you stupid but come on.... I did forget to mention she does not come out unless I have PEOPLE there to help me NOT PERSON, but PEOPLE.....Once again read my last posting then come back at me with a lemon juice and knife comment.

Have you ever heard don't be the fool who brings a knife to a gun fight, but in regards to that you would be faster than the bullet

Once again thanx Jake. I am not trying be little anyone, but as stated above in another posting please read it all before you attack or decide you know it all, every snake is different and with the 8 retics, my brume and a fw other snakes, not all of them require the gun only her. I also stated that I use her in show with children as an educational tool ( i don't carry my gun ), And I do not allow access to touching her. Just there for show. Now please wad all postings all the way through, please then come to me and give your 2 cents worth. You do not know what this snake has been through and the true nature of her mentality. Then come to me and tell me what to do, or rather your advise, after all this is based on experience NOT MY FIRST TIME AROUND THE BLOCK.
Also if you read in another posting I typer earlier above, A giant snake isn't for him but if he wants a retic or brume there are dwarf versions of these.

These animals are pure muscle, and the strongest human being in the world could not beat the strength of these animals. They deserve respect, and as long as you are not stupid and think they care for you or love you and would never hurt you then you should be just fine.

There wouldnt be much anyone could do if a huge snake got someone in a fully commited coil. They bite, wrap, move you, and wrap more all in under 5 seconds. I watched a show measureing the squeeze force of a green anaconda, it was squeezing at 90lbs per sq. inch for a solid 15 minutes. They calculated that out to the equavalent of a bus sitting on your chest. Unless the weapon is already drawn and your ready, i doubt its gonna do any good. These snakes are ambush predators. They wait so you arent paying attention to them. Not that there out to get you but if they decide to, nobody would know it till it happened. Multiple people is the only way to help the situation or make sure the snake isnt present period.

i dont think there is a single person on this site that doesnt care for their snakes. people arent being "friendly" because of the inexperienced people keeping animals that can kill them not fully understanding this. the mistakes they make affect us all. all the stupid people who think they have real control of these animals should NOT keep them. this is where we all as keepers get a bad rep. someone will get hurt or killed because the snake is "deadly". well no S#1T!!! if you have doubts about keeping such an animal then DONT!!!

find someone to intern with before. offer cage cleaning, feeding, mopping or what ever it takes to get hands on experience.

you are, knowingly or not, representing ALL of us when you do this. get hurt doing something stupid means i cant keep my tiny ball python. but showing the world you are committed to the health and education of these creatures means that we are moving forward in educating ourselves as well as the public about this misunderstood animals.

dont eff it up for the rest of us by being an idiot and thinking you know what you dont. show everyone that you are smart enough to admit you dont know everything but are willing to learn.

    good luck

I never said I new it all, I do believe I stated that I still ask questions, I don't know it all but I do know that I have never been questioned about my husbandry questions. The remark was made to be an educational point of view, letting this person know that there are precautions you have to take before acquiring a large snake any large snake. I do believe that if I didn't know what I was doing or it was at least in question then I wouldn't be asked by the local humane society as well as police and rescue, or a rescue group here in Colorado to take charge of these animals and give them a home.

I respect all your answers and I do agree if something is being done that will get you hurt or killed then fine do what you think is right, but do not let the rest of us look bad. Once again the statement wasn't made to look like I'm an idiot, but made to make a point. That these snakes are not for everyone. I have tons of respect for these animals, and its one reason why I didn't let her get put down. I took her in and i have been working with her, to make a point that over time they can be worked with and not really trained or trusted, but allowed to live out a life that they were brought into by humans, in captivity not in the wild. SHe is a large snake, she is related to fluffy and she is gorgeous but i don't trust her completely, Hell I know ppl who I don't trust completely should we put them down also. No, I know I know human being are humans, What ever that means. I also realize that she could get a hold of me and there is nothing i could do about. I don't take the gun with me to just have it is there for protection.... A just in case. Same as the listerine, my tongs, hook, and poke stick, Her built in hide into the tank with a sliding glass door, as well as ppl I ask to come help. I have no children, and when i use her in educational shows she, is in a reinforced dog kennel that is locked and pad locked for their as well as her safety.

Once again, I don't know it all, But I hate being insulted and more or less being called stupid, and insulted saying i don't know what I'm doing. I will ask questions when i need to. I will do my part to make sure none of us look stupid or bad owners. I have more retics and brumes and treat them all the same, I still have the gun with me its, a precaution, maybe a way to feel moor comfortable, But i will be damned if I will be told that I have a large snake to just carry a gun, an excuse to have a gun. I live in the middle of no where in colorado. I can cary a gun for that reason, 9 years in the army, I carried a gun, I was in bosnia, kosovo, afghanistan and Iraq, Where I was injured. That there is reason enough for me to carry a gun, but I don't I have owned this gun and no others for 10 years It has ben shot twice, both times in afghanistan.

Please have a little more respect, for everyone on here and if your point of vie insults some one then keep your mouth shut. I am deeply offended by this and think that the subject is now dead.

To the original starter of this thread, as stated above do your research, do you homework, be trained by someone who owns a large snake. then decide if its what you want. If interested in the retics or burms but don't want a huge one, then go with the dwarf versions of either of these. there are super dwarf retics also, same snake, same temp. same attitude, same feeding frenzy, Less size, a smaller package......Good luck to you and I hope it all works out, and you find what you are looking for as well as are well versed in it before you set out on the adventure.

To everyone else, good luck to you as well, and I hope i didn't offend anyone here. I wasn't trying to do that, but I was trying to make a point that before you add your 2 cents read posting above yours, then put your part in
