I have watched the Cove and don't agree with what is going on. Should something be done? Yes. From what I have seen on the Cove I don't see too much wrong with how they are handling it, I don't find it illegal. I can't say what I think should be done as approving illegal actions is not allowed on the site but it would involve role reversal in that cove.........only way people really start to listen is when **** gets real and real FAST.
As for the Sea Shepards in Antarctica, I find them quite annoying. Everything they do has little to no thought going into it. Their ships are too slow and the only thing they can do is paint the ship red. Looks like child's play to me, if your going to do something, do it right.
NOW on top of that, what they are doing and what they should be doing is an ACT OF WAR on Japan. They are illegally interfering with Japans trade and the only reason why they are getting away with any of this is because they have a show. Idc if Japan is lying or not. People lie ALL THE TIME, I mean hell look at BP and all the other companies that are in corporate America today. Illegal dumping, oil spills, hides from animals. I don't see anyone protesting them or these other causes. I guess people just have to have a cause to do what they do, and maybe whales are their cause. Soooo technically they only care about the whales and dolphins, ignoring EVERY OTHER animal. Really they and everyone apart of their team is just as closed minded as everyone else. But that's right, no one want to hear that. I mean the wild Tiger population is about to go EXTINCT but no one is helping with that. Reptiles in other countries are being killed ALIVE for their skin, where are the protesters?
Everything ANYBODY does is about making a name for themselves, whether you like to hear it or not. Would I love to go around the world and save the animals? Yes, but it’s not realistic. Getting a real job, doing what you can locally, and supporting (if you have one) your family is more important. You just have to see it from a logical perspective. If you save the whales and dolphins, what’s next? There will always be something and that’s just the facts. I really don’t like it but can you really stop humans nature to be like a virus and take over everything in the way? And I know…….”but we can try”. And like I said power to you. But I am arguing with myself now and can’t really decide on what is right. Because what is right, is really wrong but needs to be done to make things right, but then you do the “right” thing in a wrong way. So does that make it right?
On a side note.....if Japan EVER decides that this is an act of war, they have every right to blow the Sea Shepards out of the water. Now this would pose the issue if the countries who lost men on the ships, if they want to retaliate. So it has gone from "saving the whales" to a war.......
It's all really a catch 22.

I do agree with anatess though as a whole humans need to go out and do something. I personally wish I could have helped out with the BP oil spill effort but when we (my girl and I) got in contact with the effort they only wanted marine biologist. But I do enjoy educating students of NCSU on the wild reptiles that live in NC and over all the joy to own have a reptile along with showing them that all myths that they hear about the snakes aren't what they are cracked up to be.
But yes simple things can be done, even as simple as adopting from a shelter the new family pet. Yes we all like blood lines but all companion animals need love too! :D

I agree with Jim. Just because you're the loudest, doesn't mean you're right...this thread is not about saving anything...it's about Big Gunns...look at me! Look what I'm doing! I can hear him patting himself on the back from here! :D
BG, did you really have to go half way around the world to find a worthy cause?

I think all this bickering about who is doing what in the world and who is making the most change is a bit childish.
The fact is, who the heck cares if BG is patting himself on the back and saying "Look at me! Look at me!" The point is he is actually DOING something positive for animals, the planet, and ultimately people. I mean, whales were one of my favorite animals growing up. Wouldn't it suck if my grandchildren grew up with whales listed as extinct?
Not everyone can support EVERY cause. People pick and choose what they support. You can only stretch yourself but so much. I think that ANYONE who actually gets off their behind and DOES SOMETHING, is worthy of a pat on the back. Any action that moves in a positive direction is for the betterment of everyone. So they dedicate themselves to whales...and what if they succeed and Japan stops whaling? I agree that their methods are not the best, but at least they are doing something.
BG, I say thank you for your efforts and thank you to EVERYONE who contributes to a cause.

I really don't think anyone is saying what he is doing is not a good thing. It's just the people who he is working under/with is what people are having a problem with.
As far as benefits to the human race.........not so much. Lowering the amount of dolphins and whales eaten to lower mercury levels, yes but other than that not so much. Yes it would be a shame to not have these animals around, but really how much do you miss the dinosaurs? If you never known them to exist do you really miss them? Food for thought.

Re: Big Gunns answer to a pm from JLC
This thread has turned into hours of entertainment (literally I just spent an hour reading through it).
The cove and whale wars are a little controversial, some of their methods do border on vigilantism, however something does need to be done and sometimes it’s the only way to get the attention necessary to make changes to current policy. There are many different ways to contribute to our planet BG is doing what works best for him and like all people he wants to be recognized for his efforts, he is louder than most, but he is a narcissist (come on look at your screen name and back shots, great lat’s by the way) and what narcissist doesn’t like attention (which is why he especially loves his haters, your all giving him attention). I see where he is coming from by choosing to help animals, I’m not a people person either, when Katrina happened I went to New Orleans to help out animal control and provide my services as a vet tech. The charities that I give time and money to, all have to do with animals or children because they don’t have the means to help themselves. So I say keep it up, Neil if this helps you feel like you are making a difference well, God bless you and keep it up and who gives a crap what anyone else says.

Guys,
We are trying very hard not to toss this thread into QT or flat out delete it.
But we cannot allow these constant personal attacks and name calling either.
Please try and stay within the boundaries or, if you cannot stop yourself, turn that aspect into PM's between yourselves.
Or, you know, the ignore feature is still available to all but the unfortunate staff.
