A question for the Married or living together couples

My live in Girlfriend soon to be fiancée if I play my cards right was very supportive of my decision to get my BP. She got sick of all the reading I did prior to buying her and often said "Just pull the trigger already." When I finally did pull the trigger she asked that I setup the cage so that it looked as natural and appealing as possible. She later helped me pick out a molded plastic 3x2 cage from Showcase cages. She wanted something that looked like it belonged in our home and understood that it was going to cost a lot more. She will hold the BP while I clean her cage and she looks at her and talks to her when shes out exploring at night. Now that I have gotten all that out of the way, she really doesn't like snakes. She enjoys the happiness the hobby brings me and she makes an effort to learn because she loves me. She knows that I am seriously thinking about getting a JCP so her new things is "You get me my ring and you can get your snake."

I wasn't into reptiles till I met my boyfriend 3 years ago. He grew up having all sorts of reptiles but no snakes. He actually didn't have any reptiles at the time we met but had thought about getting back into them. Me being the animal lover said lets do it. Ended up I actually got the first one with my Bearded Dragon. Then I started getting Corn Snakes. After that came the Crested Geckos. Finally he started getting his own reptiles again. It wasn't until after I had my Corn Snakes for awhile that I thought I could handle a Ball Python so I went and bought a normal male. It didn't take long after I got him home that my bf was like I want one and ran out and bought a normal female. So I can definitely say we both take care of the growing collection of reptiles. And of course I was the one who started the asf breeding, but he still helps with cleaning and feeding off. :D Now days I just try to keep him from getting anymore Uromastyx's as the 5 we already have plus the Bearded Dragon's keep our electric bill high all year. Which of course just means getting more Crested Gecko's. ;)

I am very lucky...it's not unusual for me to get home and my wife have all the snakes cleaned, about 80, except for 2 or 3 nippy females. She pitches in on all the chores except the rodents, she will not go in the rat barn unless I ask her to. She loves reptile shows and is getting pretty knowlegable about the snakes...I am very lucky.

My girlfriend helps by holding the snakes while I clean. On the plus side this means I don't have to change diapers. My part of the deal lol. Sadly, if this relationship ends, which it looks like it may, I hope my next one is as understanding about the snakes.

My husband is not as interested in the snakes as I am (he actually prefers arachnids, and may be working with them eventually--his desert hairy scorpion is his current love). However, he does understand that this is a business rather than just a hobby, so he helps me out with all of the chores without complaining. (I have CFS, so the amount I can do varies unpredictably).

My SO will occasionally take his Dumerils out, maybe look at mine on VERY rare occasions but other than that, he is totally hands off. He doesn't mind them, but hates that I spend money on them.

My wife handles the majority of the day to day maintence.

My GF & I have lived together for several years and have 2 geckos, a leopard & a crested. She loves them both dearly, and while I do most of the gecko-related chores, she definitely does help when needed. Right at the moment, she's actually doing 100% of their care due to some unfortunate circumstances in our life, but that's another story...

The only snag we have is that I'd really like to get a snake in the future, and she's very hesitant about the types of snakes that I find attractive. I'd like to get a rainbow boa or an Irian Jaya carpet python, but she just doesn't like snakes with heads larger than their necks for some reason. Corn snakes, kingsnakes, etc are apparently ok, but those don't appeal to me. The really confusing part for me is that she's totally fine with the fact that my brother and other people have snakes like that, but doesn't feel ok living with one in the apartment (or house, should we be so lucky). I guess we're at an impasse...

My girlfriend is afraid of snakes, she cleans my 6 foot vision cages(uromastyx's), my gecko cages, etc. But she doesnt come near an open snake cage. She does do the majority of house cleaning, I wouldnt ask for a better girlfriend. Even if I did it isnt possible to find one :D
