I use a tub and only have 1 snake. So I don't think you need to be a breeder or have 4 plus snakes to use tubs.

I think tanks are and ok bare-bones temporary enclosure for your first snake. Personally I hate tanks. They ALL remind me of a "petshop" display nomatter how theyre "setup" especially with the clutter of fake decor not to mention the junk surrounding the tank to keep temps/humidity etc. correct. If someone wants to go that route atleast get some vision, RBI, AP etc. enclosures. IMO Racks look cleaner, more organized, and alot more proffesional.

I started in tanks . . . and switched to stackables. :p I love them. It's kinda the best of both worlds, in a way. Less space, similar to tubs, but still a bit of a display enclosure. So I can see what everyone is up to, and I can give them light cycles.

Most are in tubs. 2 are in tanks. 1 being my largest female whome I didnt want to move & stress her out during breeding season. The other being 1 in qtn who just got over an RI.

Tubs are easier to control stats with IMHO but tanks make better display peices.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I currently use 20l tanks from my pet supply store. I eventually want to build the enclosures that are on Blue Apple Herps though. I do have a fight with temps and humidity, however, for me it is an ok tradeoff to have something I like looking at. The Tanks are heavy enough to not get knocked around by the kiddies as well, and I have no where to store a tub setup.

If I ever get into breeding, though, it will be a rack and tub system all the way. Also, when I get my baby GTP, I will be using a tub for it until it is grown, as a tub IS easier to get to the correct temps/humidity.

TUBS. I, like many, started with tanks...and where I live the air is very dry, and after some nasty dryness issues, problems regulating humidity, and some VERY unpleasant shedding problems, I switched to tubs. I eventually plan to have a few tanks in my home to display favourites but, for the time being, tubs, tubs, tubs! :)

I still keep a some of my snakes in tanks, but the majority are kept in tubs nowadays.

    Tubs all the way!!

I started off with my first BP in a 55 gal tank, I about went crazy trying to keep it right, Insulated with 2 UTH's and a ceramic heater, then added a humidifier and still had to mist to keep the humidity up. Plus she never came out of her hide anyway, 98% of the time it looked like I had a empty decorated tank!

I agonized over switching her to a tub, it really did seem pretty inhumane. Then I made the switch. Within 2 hours my temp and humidity were perfect, and because the tubs are opaque, she spends more time out of her hide than in it. I can still see her, but I don't think she really see's me. I now own 3 bp's and they are all in tubs. I am planning on building a rack soon, as my collection is growing.

Cleaning takes 1/4 of the time as I just pull them out and clean them in the bathtub, you can't do that with a 55 gal. And getting in to clean her tank was an absolute pain! I am not a tall person so I had to stand on a chair to reach the bottom of the tank.

I love my BP's and I take them out to play regularly, but I also love not having to worry if there tank is clean, and their temps, and humidity are right. As silly as it sounds, I know my snakes are happier in their tubs, and I am a much happier owner!

I voted tubs because my tubs are in my rack.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I had my first one, which was a wild catch normal adult in a 120 gallon tank... over kill in a huge huge way. I was not the one that took care of anything but feedings so i have no clue how that was set up (I was 12 and it was my stepdads..lol). My next BP was a tank and between the wires, the monitoring, and everything was an everyday watching job besides cleaning to maintain. I am going almost clear tubs all the way for costs and ease this time. Plus I like to have em out with me more than looking in, so tubs just seem the best route.

Tubs all the way for me. Easier to keep temps and humidity spot on even when the seasons change.

Yeah they are not so attractive but whats more important in this. You or the snake?

Not to sound negative about tubs. But if you are having a snake as a pet... How fair is that to lock him up in something he can't even see out of to see his human family? Sure it's easier to clean up the bins, but think of it this way...Would you want to live a long life in a piece of plastic? Remember even though they appear to not have emotions, they obviously do, since Alexander didn't like the place I put his tank at first. Once I put it where HE wanted it and incorporated him more centrally so he could see everything. He was much happier.

I bought him to make him part of my family not just something to dump in a corner in Tupperware. Since snakes aren't social with other snakes, I don't intend on having more than one. Thus the bit of effort made to clean and be sure he's comfortable is no problem. I personally do not see the reason to collect a bunch of snakes if you can't devote individual time to each one.

If you are a breeder that's a whole different thing.

In my opinion, snakes aren't social, either with other snakes OR their human family. They tolerate handling, sure, they might like the stimulation and exercise and new surroundings, but the humans themselves they see as nothing but warm moving trees. In addition, snakes need security. They need to feel safe. I feel that they feel safer in a tub than a tank.
That being said, I keep my BP in a tub. I had her in a 20g tank for a while, but the temps were terrible to keep regulated, so I eventually moved her into a tub. I like it a lot, she seems to feel more secure, and it's just overall better.
