Behira and Feliz will hit the doors in anticipation of food but will only take off the tongs.

I left the rat 2 inches from Behira one night. Was there in the morning with her 2 inches from it. I picked it up with the tongs and as soon as I shook it she nailed it and ate.

    They can be strange.

My corns don’t care. I just throw it in if they are hiding and it’s gone in the morning. Shayna the BP too sometimes.

Yafe the CP is less aggressive about it then the boas, but he’s on the rat so quick it doesn’t matter.

A little something interesting I noticed when I had Adelita out today. The camera didn't capture it the best, but it's quite obvious in person.

For reasons I believe are related to basking, the left side of her face was in light phase while the rest of her was in dark phase. Normally, she's in dark phase for the first half of the day while she's napping away, and only transitions to light phase at night or after a good amount of time under her UV light. Today, she stuck her head out of her cork tube to rest it left side up on a cork flat, towards her light. It seems that the light exposure was just enough to trigger the left side of her face to light phase. Interesting!

Her belly's looking a tad pink, so she might be building up a shed. She's certainly due for one!

Snakes are all different about feeding, that's for sure. I've had snakes do this too. ^ ^ ^ But I don't usually wait until morning- I've learned to check sooner. It takes them a while to train us. ;)

Never had that happen as far as feeding. Definitely strange. I’ve had dumerils in the past that drove my crazy to get feeding consistently. That’s about it.

Took Adelita out for a little porch time. Her eyes were looking a tad opaque in the natural light and she generally looks a little pre-sheddy. Methinks a shed may be on its way, but she's fooled me before.

Adelita's been looking mighty fine. She started to get more of that "teenaged" boa body with her latest growth spurt and measured in at 316g and 2'11" today. My little baby's growing up!

Poor Adelita. She got a good-sized coco chip wedged in her mouth while striking at her link this morning. It was big enough to distress her and present an impaction risk if it went down, so I had to take her out, hold her down, and reach into her mouth to get it out. She wasn't too pleased with the whole ordeal and lost interest in her link after that. She was still hungry, though, so I thawed out a day-old-quail for her for a small bite that was greatly appreciated. Hopefully the next feeding won't be such a production!

Her Reptilink, ie. one of those sausages for reptiles. I'm trying to mix some alternate prey items into my snakes' diet so they're not feeding exclusively on (relatively) fatty rodents. Adelita's been open to them so far; hopefully the incident with the coco chip today won't put her off them.

Caught Adelita in the midst of her night cruise and let her have a little hang time with her enclosure door open. She was happy sitting on her "porch," but wasn't when I had to shut the door!

Both of the boas have been acting very hungry since our regular summer storms and rain started up. It's barely been a week since Adelita was last fed and she's already showing signs of being hungry again. While I'm all for feeding seasonally and as snakes get truly hungry, I don't want to pound them with food.

Adelita's loving the summertime. She's been a lot livelier and extra iridescent as of late, though the pictures I've gotten don't really do her justice on the latter front. It's almost like having a rainbow boa, but with a better attitude!

Adelita finally shed today! Took her out to the porch for a few quick pics in full sunlight -- the smoke plume going over the region made for some interesting lighting, though.

Heard back from her cage manufacturer (Kages), and it turns out they do offer screens for post-purchase installs! So, she'll probably get switched over to light-based heating in the relatively near future.

Up first, though: I decided it's time to finally screen all the snakes for arena- and nidovirus proactively. Have some swabs on order from RAL/VetDNA and will be testing all the kids when they come in. At the very least, the boas will be screened for arenavirus and Pandora will be screened for nidovirus.

Changed Adelita's hides up during her last cage cleaning. This seems to be her new favorite cryptic basking position.

Got the results in from RAL/VetDNA today for all the snakes' boid panels. Very happy to report that there's no arenavirus, nidovirus, or paramyxovirus in this house. I'll continue with annual screenings for the foreseeable future to make sure there aren't any dormant cases, but this is a great start! [emoji4]

Happy belated Gotcha Day to Adelita! She's been home for over two years now. The new "feed them a mix of stuff when they're hungry, within reason" feeding regimen seems to be working great for her. She recently broke the 3' mark thanks to her summer growth spurt and is now sitting at 3'3". She seems to enjoy having a mix of prey as well -- be it mice, quail, Reptilinks, or the odd rat pup, she'll gladly eat it!

Adelita's looking great ahead of winter turn-down and is sweet as ever. She's ~390g and 3'4" now. The mixed diet of mice, rat pups, quail, and the MegaBlend Reptilinks seems to be doing her good. At the rate she's growing, she may be ready for small rats next year.

It's hard to see in the photos, but she actually has a lot of coral pinks and terracotta oranges to her now. Her adult colors seem to be coming in at last!

Normally I don't spray my snakes directly, but she loved the fine mist falling over her and practically chased the mister as I pulled it away, haha. Adelita is definitely one of those snakes that appreciates very fresh water.

Took Adelita outside for a spell since the weather's warming up. Yeah, I think she put on a bit of size over the winter! [emoji1787]

Didn't get weight or measurements today, but she's somewhere between 3.5' to 4', probably closer to the latter. She'll get about a foot longer before leveling out. It certainly feels like some of her mature muscle is starting to come in -- her grip is a good deal stronger than what it used to be.
