Seems we’ve entered the terrible twos...? What a jackass...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c97e559ef8.jpg
I’m thinking of increasing feeding frequency ~slightly. He’s been on weaner rats for a few weeks or so at ~12 day intervals. But has been displaying hunting/stalking behavior by day 8ish. Might give him a couple in quicker succession and then a break to transition into a less schedule based regimen if you will.

I think a bump is probably fine now. He's 2 years old.
On a side note,,,,,,,, after seeing him you know what I'm thinking don't you?
It is torture!!!

He's looking awesome! Harley used to get her head stuck in between the sliding glass doors. It really used to stress me out! I felt like she was going to break her neck.

Nice pics. I love the contrast between direct light and indirect light. Feliz is the same way.
Looking good! Keep us posted.

Thanks y’all!
Dakski, post up some sunlight photos of Feliz when it gets cool enough outside for him. These pics were with the blinds open in my snake room and may have shown better colors than direct, outdoor sunlight though.
If it’s any solace, Gio, your Barranquilla boy is on another level of boa rarity. For those with a critical eye, Barranquilla boas are just as impressive in their own regard as any true red tail. And in fact are harder to come by than a lot of the true red tails from what I can deduce in my modest couple years of keeping boas. I still wish you could snatch up a pokigron suri though. Ask your buddy to hold one back on visitation rights for you

No real updates aside from moving up to small rats now. Leonard just being one stud of a Surinam Boa. Seems to have put on some decent size this spring/summer. A sturdy 3’ or slightly larger now.

Thanks man! Got him from a hobbyist breeder, but the sire was produced by Gus Renfro in 2013 and the dam is from Rio Bravo bloodlines as well produced by Chris Wolfe in 2011.

That was probably his daddy's first time... :O (my male wasn't mature until he was 6).
If the female was mature in 2011 (likely her first time) she had to be an F1, almost certainly from the first litter of those wild boas in 2006 ...which would make his mom a sister to my old girl.

Yeah the sire changed hands a few times before he was mature and my boy is from his first litter sired. Dam was born in 2011 and I believe her first litter was the pairing my boy was produced from.
I think that would likely make mom an F2, not totally sure on dad though.

No worries, man. I bet the parents to the mother of my boy are siblings to your female though. Would be a fun project to trace back all the lineage and make a pedigree for these animals. I'm not on social media though so it's much harder to hunt down folks who've owned the previous generations of these Pokis.
-
Re: 2018 Male Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname Red Tailed Boa Constrictor Progression
Wow! I can't stop staring at this beautiful Boa!
How's the temperament and how big do you expect him to get? Do you find there is a much of a difference in the care between a BCI? Sorry for all the questions but I'm very intrigued.
-
Yeah, no social media for this guy either and I would like to know what folks are seeing from their F1's.
By seeing I mean length of males/females, reproductive success, older boas darken on the lats of the tail third of the body -I think my 06 female is taking a long time to develop this which I take as a good sign but may be normal for the group...what are others seeing?
I would also like to be able to trace pedigree...especially now that I acquired a pair of '18 Pokigron boas second hand -not that it matters I guess because if I pair them with my F1 stock there is no way to be more genetically diverse.
Anyway, forgive the intrusion on your thread (I'll go back to wrecking Gio's thread :gj:)
-
Re: 2018 Male Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname Red Tailed Boa Constrictor Progression
Hah! Not intruding at all. Love hearing about the backgrounds on these animals and learning from other folks keeping the same locality stock. I'm honestly interested to hear more about your BCO critters, I've got one of my own with a progression thread on here that you're welcome to intrude on at time. I'll try to get some pics of her soon as she's also put on some decent size this year and just turned 2yrs mid August.

Hey bud. He's cool as a cucumber, never struck at me and I think I've heard a total of two hisses out of this guy in over 2yrs. I expect he'll likely reach 6'+ but I'm not rushing him to get there. Slow and steady wins this race.
They're a bit less forgiving of errors compared to BCI from what I know, but I've never kept imperator animals. Just this guy and my Argentine Boa currently. I will say that if you do the proper research and know how to read your critters I've found him to be one of the most manageable snakes I've kept. This boy is definitely a bit more grabby/clingy when handling compared to my BCO but I'm only collecting observations from a sample size of one example of either species.
Regardless, love the hell out of them both.

Re: 2018 Male Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname Red Tailed Boa Constrictor Progression
He's looking great, jmcrook!
I was just writing about Feliz and how strong and grippy he is, more like a true red tail (so I am told) than my BI's. He is a "true" red tail, but a dwarf, so at least I don't have to worry about him getting huge.
How's Leonard in terms of grip? Even at under 800G with Feliz I have to watch the fingers :). Behira at 3X that size is a gentle giant and much easier on the hands and wrists.

Leonard is the grippiest snake I’ve ever had, maybe rivaled by Sally Jo my rockhampton coastal carpet at times but she’s loosened her grip a bit. Almost seems as though he’s gotten grabbier with age and size too. Aside from that he’s incredibly easy going. By contrast, Mirabelle is hardly grabby at all and is more than content to lie motionless on my lap for extended periods. Leonard is a bit more of a busy body but not nearly as much as the carpet gang here.
