Between he and Phyllis both being in shed and Geoffrey being a ball python I almost forgot what it was like to have pet snakes for a while hahaha. Gerald fixed that by promptly pissing all over my shirt and the wall in the hallway. At least I got him that far instead of on the carpet in the snake room.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1429215aaa.jpg he also does not know how to relax. Even when he’s not moving, which is rare, he has an absolute death grip on whatever he’s touching. Like a vice around my arm here.

Really need Ali to get back to me about a custom new cage because this dude needs an upgrade and soon

Wow! Comical all the years I have had both snakes I miss every shed. However Kendall has never missed a single one.

That’s funny! It was only when I got Phyllis that I first got to see a shed from absolute start to finish, and I’d had snakes for 20 years at that point! I’ve caught her a number of times but I always seem to miss Gerald and Geoffrey

Unrelated, I put him back on coco chips last night. Some of which were from Phyllis’s cage that were clean so I bagged them up when I moved apts a few weeks ago. Put him in there, was noticeably curious checking out the bedding and then later last night I caught him spurring and courting himself hahah! He definitely wants a girlfriend.

    Quick to mature!

Wallace is getting scary these days. Putting on the size, damn tiger gene, and doesn't at all like being pulled out of the cage.

Another foot or 2 and I'll start having my son around for the handling sessions in case I need a set of hands.

He's a good choice at 15 years old as he placed top 6 in his last stint at wrestling nationals. I'm not 100% sure my wife would handle things well, although she's a Spartan Racer and has skills, just not snake skills. I don't even know if I have snake skills LOL!

Gerald is rocking the season of love. Hot summer nights!

Lol yep! They don’t look that big until they start moving and don’t want to come out of the cage! I’m solo here so I’ve got to be very perceptive of my critters attitudes and movements. Gerald is a serious handful, at times quite annoying actually. Phyllis handles like dream by comparison and is close to three time his mass and two feet longer

I agree with the "annoying" part at times.

You will find that your boa constrictor will have a good amount of mass in time, but will be a joy to sit with and chill.

Retics are fascinating and extremely entertaining as far as snakes go but they are not typically relaxing.

Depending on the person, I'd say 10 feet tops, and then a second person is a must.

Wallace is sizing up now and I'm ready for him to slow to a crawl on the growth scale.

I hear ya man. If Gerald was 10’ I’d want a spotter when handling. Phyllis however is an absolute sweetheart out of the cage so I feel comfortable with her but still give her plenty of respect as she is 9-10’ and ~23lbs. Both the retics “seem” to be slowing down on length for the most part now.
Kinda looking forward to a more slow growing boa by comparison haha

Homeboy put on a fresh suit a little bit ago. Not a great pic but sorta illustrates his size. Sturdy 8’ and 10-11lbs. Really need to make a decision soon on new cages for Phyllis so Gerald can take her T25. Boamaster gave me some pretty decent quotes on an 8’ cage in two 4’ halves that join together, just thoroughly thinking out all my other opinions before making a hasty investment.

Lol I know, I know... gotta get Phyllis squared away so he can take her T25. Then the boa gets Gerald’s T8.
Mark at boamaster quoted $800 for an 8x3x2 pvc cage built in two 4’ halves. $640 for the same design in melamine. Also has a 4’x32”x15” for $250 each. Said he’d cut the pass through between the two 4’ halves for $25 and they ship for $20 each. I really want something at least 18” tall though. Waiting to hear back about a quote on 8’x30”x18-24”. If he gives me a number I can deal with I might pull the trigger

Lol. Thats too funny. I just have been pissed on the foot by Caesar. But Caesar really isnt a fan of being handled. He tolerates it but you can clearly see he doesnt really enjoy it. He is more a fan of having a door left open so he can relax on the litter dam and get pettings. He likes those or when HE decides he wants to come out lol.

If you do get from Boamaster, have to let us know what you think of the PVC he uses. And yeah, i would for sure go with at least 18 inches tall if you are going 8 feet long and 30-36 inch deep.

And freakin Caesar last night was hungry as he has gone almost a month now since his last jumbo rat and he was expressing it by thumping the shelf all night long and shoving his hide around lol. So I have today off after a 6 day work week so I am going to get everyone a nice big dinner.

Hah! Yeah Gerald isn’t a huge fan of handling either. Either clamps down on my arm or face or tries to run like an 8’ corn snake. If he were more calm I’d let him roam around like Phyllis but he’s just too fast and still thin enough to get into tighter little spaces. If I blink for too long he’d be gone lol

Yeah we’ll see what Mark says about 8x30x18. I’d imagine it’s pretty comparable pvc to AP cages. I’ll for sure update if/when I go through with anything.
Might have to bump Gerald up to two jumbos per feeding soon. Jumbo doesn’t even really leave a bump anymore. If I tried to let either of my retics go without food for as long as Caesar just went I’m certain they’d tear their faces off of their skulls.

Yeah I'm rather surprised Caesar lasted as long as he did. He just started being torublesome last night so i'm guessing 3-4 weeks is his limit before he lets you know.

Haha, yeah I swear that one time as soon as I left the snake room at bedtime, my Jungle in the 4x4 cage let loose on the top shelf, painted it, the wall and Urates running down the 4 ft wall got painted, and the bottom self as well!

And of course the next day was busy and i didn’t do my normal morning check until late afternoon. I didn’t think I’d ever get those stains out! There is still some in areas of the sealant that I can’t get out without stripping and resealing.

He actually just barely tagged me for the first time just now. Surprised the hell out of me but he was acting unusually twitchy while he was out just now so I read that as a sign to put him away. Was putting him back in his cage and he just nicked my thumb but I could definitely see how a more serious/deliberate bite could be trouble. Only one good tooth snag but it bled and quickly at that
He’s clearly very interested in breeding; arching and cruising all over, most notably since his last shed a couple days ago.

I think moving into Phyllis’s soon to be old cage soon will help (maybe ever so slightly) but I’ll also expect that he’s just going to be a horny, twitchy, spastic Male retic. Once
Phyllis heals up maybe I’ll try pairing again but that’s only once she’s doing well.
They are definitely a very assertive species. If you know your animals you can absolutely tell when things are about to head south

Still can’t get over that setup! It looks so nice!
And he’s a gorgeous snake. Good thing he didn’t nail you! I’ve yet to be bitten by any of my snakes (I’ve been bitten before, but not from any of mine). I figure it’s a given it’ll happen sooner or later, I just hope it’s not a full grown retic bite. I’m really cautious with him though, just because of the potential he has. I’m REALLY hoping he stays so chill and doesn’t turn into a :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: once he decides he should be breeding.

I am not surprised as the twitchy behavior is more common with the SD and dwarf species. Obviously the male aspect is huge in your case.

No doubt he is aware of Philly.

Wallace can be a treat some days.

I always make sure he is going the other direction before I reach in.

That's a beautiful snake! I know everyone says "match the size of their girth" but it's so hard for me to look at a snake and look at a rat and go "yeah sure" lol. My retic was eating 2-3 adult mice a week up until about 5 feet. then I start giving her 1-2 chicks a week depending on how big the chick was. I am thinking now that she is around 6 feet to just give her 1 medium rat a day. I also have a 7-8 ft burm eating jumbo rats I am considering moving to rabbits. I bought some rabbits from a guy and I froze them and I can't really look at him and envision if he's big enough for them xD

Depends on the snake. Caesar just got really pushy when he wanted to breed. He pushed like crazy and would arch but he never got pissy. But he was always mellow even as a baby. Never took a shot at me and only hissed once ever when i tried to hook train him, he really hated the hook lol. But anyways, each snake is going to be different.

You would be surprised at the size of food a snake can eat. My 6 foot boa gets a large rat every month as well as my 7 foot boa. Caesar the retic, who is about 8 feet gets a jumbo rat or 2XL guinea pig every 2 weeks. I have fed Caesar and even the boas food that i miss-sized and they still powered it down. Looked like they ate a football after and they went into a 3 day food coma, but they seemed pretty happy lol.

And back to the subject, Gerald looks good. I've always liked white snakes. And good thing you didnt get tagged. Not sure on Geralds head size but Caesar has a huge head and if i ever did get bit, i know it would hurt lol. I got bit by Rosey on a quick defensive bite when i woke her and scared her. Surprisingly it didnt hurt but boy it did bleed a ton and Rosey is 7 feet.

He did actually get me on the thumb with one tooth. Didn’t notice until this morning that he gashed himself though... and my vet isn’t at her clinic today. Just texted her and she said it probably could have used stitches. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...24057358d7.jpg
Unfortunately there’s nowhere in this town to take him right now. Poor guy.

Yeah dude... almost makes me start to rethink things over here. Vet said to put him on paper and clean the wound with chlorhexadine and dress it with silvadene. Got him cleaned up but man was he being twitchy. After he shed the other day it was like a switch flipped in his brain and he’s in full breeding mode now

Captain chainsaw just nailed himself again. No good and no fun knowing I might well be in over my head with this guy now that he’s in full on breeding mode.

One that wants to breed. 1 that says nope and smashes her face anyway? Good luck. Wish I knew what to tell you. Do you have any friends with a female that he can get a playmate with?
