Names
Hello everyone! Well I am new here and just reading through all the treads. Here's my story. About 25 years ago I had a few clutches of eggs. All were normals, as this is all there really was back then, except for the big money albinos of the time. College kind of forced me out of the hobby and I never looked back. Last year my oldest daughter told me
she wanted a snake after seeing some pictures I had from back then. I decided to see if the local expo was still happening and it was. When I got there I was amazed at how much I have been missing. We ended up with our first ball, a pinstripe male she named stormy because it was raining when we got her. I decided what the heck lets see if we can breed some of these cool looking balls and did a little research. I found a guy selling his whole clutch at a really good price. I picked up six snakes of unknown gender. 2 mojave/spiders, three mojaves, and one spider. Had them sexed and one mojave and a spider were male and the rest females. He also threw in a herpstat 1, heat tape, and an incubator. All this for 250. I sold the two males for 80 bucks and kept the females.
spider/mojave names. Eclipse and sunshine
mojave names beast and luna
to this we added a male butter named Mr. Meany for obvious reasons
and a phantom we names phantom.
we love these guys and girls but did have one question
do you guys think our females could be ready to go next year. I am guessing the bigger ones are around 750 grams right now. Could they double in time?
thanks

Lol as I got to that part of the story I thought the same thing.

Re: Let's hear what everybody names their BP!
Lucille Ball Python (Not a Lucy but I loved the name too much not to use it)
I also just adopted a normal today and I'm leaning toward "Sasha". Or possibly "Spot". :D

Re: Let's hear what everybody names their BP!
I named my boy Thurman, which was inspired from a track from one of my favorite pianist's CDs. Thurman was a dog, but I think it's a pretty good snek name too.

Re: Let's hear what everybody names their BP!
I always get a good chuckle when I see people have named their male snake Nagini. Since it was my understanding that a Nagini is the female counterpart of a male Naga. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I just see it a lot. :-)

Re: Let's hear what everybody names their BP!
I'm planning on naming my Ball Python Prelude. I just cannot get Ave Maria (the Gounod and Bach version) played by John Michel out of my head. Love the Prelude C major, so, why not name my Ball after something I adore.

And my mums normal was called Isis (after that Egyptian god) but when we got her, we changed it to Fraggles- after the old TV show i used to watch as a kid. Fraggles suites her more than Isis did XD

Coilette should be her name because that is bender's female persona when he gets a sex change.

This is is why my posts are minimal in ANY forum I join and when I do post it is via PM to people with questions. What starts as a fun, friendly, and entertaining post always spirals down the vortex of the toilet with a self appointed genius that just can't or doesn't have the ability to learn the golden rule. If you can't follow the theme of the post, shut up, go home, and take your ball with you.

agreed and as to the person you were quoting the point is so that when you talk about them with people they can know them as something other then "English name of species", "morph", "male/female", "size range", #### snake. yes the # signs are the number as some people will breed and get the same morph. that and its just a human quality to name things, we have names they become part of who we are and we name things because those things become part of who/what we see them as.
personally i would question if the person hated their own name if they disliked naming things.

the home land thing just makes me crack up. you do realize that like 1/2 of the morphs couldn't survive int he wild right? their patterns and genetic disorders would get them eating in short order. and honestly if your don't like snake keeping as a hobby or as a choice of pet your in the wrong place. these snakes are 99% captive breed most of us couldn't afford the customs paperwork much less the shipping cost of bringing a normal over much less a rare wild morph. while yes ball pythons are not while i would consider a domesticated animal your attitude just seems to be overly aggressive. if your trying to make people think that ball pythons shouldn't be keep as pets OK, that's your opinion but honestly sir, its not the opinion of the majority of people here on a web site dedicated to the keeping of the same animals you wish to have people not keep.
but what i really want to know is why a forum thread on what are the names of your pets set you off so badly, did you lose some one close to you? lose a pet then see their name listed by some one? what is it because you wouldn't just come here register and flame unless your like peta or some other group.

Heck, if people want to name things, let them name things.
These snakes are gonna be around for quite a long time, if you are keeping them as pets, and giving them a nice name is better than calling them 'it' or 'that snake over there'. It also makes you grow more attached to it.
ECechoHO, if you dont want to name your snakes, I completely respect that. I named mine, because I wanted to. :)

Now, I dont want this thread to be locked down for going off topic. So, can we please move on from this, and continue with the snake names?
Thankyou :) :)
