Oh, forgot to add, but snake hate is so prevalent -- even amongst people who have never been near a snake let alone held one (I'll never understand that) -- that this is the only place I feel safe talking about our wee little Patriot. :salute:

The reaction I saw to that news story of the python killing the toddler in Florida only the day after we brought Patriot home burst my new-snake bubble and reminded me of that hatred. :(

I like how friendly the people are, how it's moderated (because I know there would be a LOT of people who will curse and say some nasty/mean things.. just from what I've seen on Yahoo! Answers lol..), how you will ALWAYS get an answer for your question, many experienced herpers here, and EVERYONE LOVES HERPS! Where I live, there is no one my age or close to my age that owns snakes.. and most of the people I know hate snakes.. so I guess I'm alone here with the snake thing and have no one to really talk to about snakes. If I try to talk about my snakes to my friends, they usually change the subject to something more "exciting" to them. Oh well lol.

any question you have will be answered. great people/ very willing to help. just all around great compared to other forums i have been to. :gj:

I really like that a snake forum has opened my mind to other issues. Prime example...

When I first moved to Toledo there happened to be a lot of pitbull bite incidents. For the first time in my life I became a support of BSL's. I was really, really scared of this breed. The folks here helped me, argued with me, reminded me that it's about the owner not the breed and in the end, helped me face what was really an irrational fear.

The end result of that thread was that I got to know pitbulls and similar breeds. That long ago thread, in which I'm sure some members here thought I was just an awfully close minded person, years later has helped me be confident enough to own Marrok and handle him properly. End result, after our recent break-in and the addition of Marrok to our home, I feel safe again. Funny how things work out and how a snake forum had such an impact in a totally non-snake related way. I'm so grateful to those folks from that long ago thread. :)

I love this site. and have been on (and abandoned many) sites, so to have this sense of community is something I would not trade for the world.

I like working on this site, and I hold the admin in reverance for what they deal with to keep it running. :D

When I was grieving and posted believing I had lost all my snakes in the fire that consumed our home. It made sense for me, despite my state of shock and grief, to connect with other snake people.

If it were not for this site, I would not have my snakes back, I would not be able to hold them today, and I would not have been prepped to take them back (took a lot of phone calls, venting, PMs, and facebooking to get me to the space I could recommitt to my snakes after what we were dealing with) and to give them a good home to come home to.

Herpers are the right kind of people, and as a community we all have our responsibility to foster responsible herper keeping in new keepers. Hands down this site promotes and encourages that... that is just ONE thing I love about BP. NET
