I only deal with CBB myself.

and CB can mean either captive bred or captive born. most animals at shows are marked CB because they were captive born on a farm.

I'm not saying you can't find a good animal for $300-400. But I will say you are going to have a hard time finding a unique chondro for that. Whatever floats your boat. Chondros are easy. Hatchling chondros are not. It is one reason I keep all chondros I produce until they are 10-24 months old....not to mention, to keep from letting anything like these go. These are all from the same parents.......and I have more.

Lineage and a proven track record go a long way. Let me know when you find something like this for $300. It's probably coming, but it will be a few years. A very well-known ball python breeder has set up a very large collection of chondros in the last couple of years. We'll see what happens.

Re: How much would a GTP cost a reptile show? average price.
well brandon, if someone's been doing it 20 years then that's obviously not who i'm referring to.
the fact of the matter is, i can name half a dozen guys that breed quality, documented locale specific animals and sell them for cheap because it's a hobby. the only place you will see them is at shows because they don't have websites or publish books and articles... that's all i'm saying; that just because an animal is not $500-$1000 doesn't mean it's farmed or of poor quality.

Re: How much would a GTP cost a reptile show? average price.
The other thing is demonizing FB animals is a bunch of bull also. You know I have seen some amazing animals come from a FB specimen pairing. So to some degree I feel like people demonize FB animals just to promote CBB animals. Look I am not saying that you don't take your chances to some degree with FB animals. With a "quality" breeder you will get a well adjusted and hopefully well started Chondro. Let just say you buy a Bush Master chondro and it is a pain in the butt to feed and what not, well that baby may very well be a F1 or F2 animal from wild caught parents. Lets be honest here isn't that were everyone Chondros started from a pain in the butt pair of wild caught parents. So to slam FB animals is just Bull. That said to recommend a FB animal to a person new to Chondros is bull to. I just think people need to keep FB animals in the right perspective.

Agreed. I am with you on that. I guess I should have asked you what you consider "way too much". What do you think of the Ball Python market? I love my Ball Pythons, but it's been an overpriced market for what seems like eternity. I see plenty of chondros on the internet for $300-400 from respected breeders. I would be careful buying at a show. If I've never heard of them, I would probably move along. I see some clutches that I do think are overpriced, but some I would consider underpriced. Depends on who you talk to.
I guess it kind of struck a nerve with me, but honestly, I do not take offense to it. I have a life, a job but not necessarly a real job by most peoples' standards, I don't advertise, I don't mind feeding neos (most of the time for at least a year), etc. We create our own market niche. A friend of mine that bred chondros once asked me to sell him snakes at a discounted price because that's what they went for in out area. I just told him, "I can't do it. My market is not here, it's everywhere".
I understand the point you guys are trying to make here. I don't speak out against farm bred or run of the mill normal green animals. I have several proven, very LTC imports in my collection. On the other hand, I have even more not so LTC imports in my freezer. It is a roll of the dice. Have there been some exceptionally unique chondros produced on farms? Yes, a handful. I love green animals as much as I love yellow and blue animals. For those that chose the "inexpensive" route, it will usually lead into more animals, and eventually wanting to acquire something with lineage or a different appearance....at a higher price. It's the difference between a Chevy Coblat and a Corvette. They both get you where you need to go, but one is faster and to some, looks better.
I hope some of this made sense. lol. :gj:
P.S. I'm not an internet rockstar, but I play one in real life. :rolleye2:

[QUOTE=juddb;1061568} You need to go ahead and pick up a corn snake. .[/QUOTE]
Hate to call him out, but it's the best example. This probably discouraged the OP and has the colubrid forum talking. On a bit of a side note Chuck, this will be the last thread where I defend what I say because you decide to call it out. Troll or not, Pat is here for info.

David
I asked you a simple question since you saw fit to call this thread out of hand. So why do you think its out of hand????. See I call it a discussion, and in a discussion ideas are exchanged and disagreements are talked through. This is how adults communicate, and I am not sure why that seems out of hand to you. So I wanted to understand why you felt the way you did.
David honestly I really doubt this will be the last time you end up defending something you say. I think you should look at your post if you would have left out anything about the conversation being out of hand, and apologizing for offending anyone then once again proclaiming how overboard it has become. Do you think I would have said a word...... let me help you no I wouldn't have, because other than that it was a great post. You went out of your way to let everyone else who posted to the thread know how you felt about the direction of the conversation. I was sitting there reading it asking myself what was wrong with the thread I thought it was pretty good. Then I thought who put you on a high horse that you are all of a sudden telling people when they have gone to far. So I am sorry if you feel like I am picking on you, but from were I am sitting you brought that on yourself.
On a side note are you serious!!! a troll that is here to learn, That is a good one.
