    well as far as i know there was no mention of a successful breeding with this male so there hasn't been any attempt to see if its genetic and prove it out.

    Black Back and or Reduced patterns are a trait of Normal Ball Pythons. it looks cool but usually is a just a normal variant pattern. they are not genetic as far as i know.

    Yes there are genetic lines of each. However, most pythons that may exhibit black-backed/reduced are just normals that have different style markings etc. The proven lines are particularly hard to come by genetically.

    My little boy is "reduced pattern", but he is CH and it is very likely to not be genetic; who knows maybe it will prove out, but most black-backs and reduced are not genetic.

    Still, its a very pretty normal.

    I sold a male that looks *just* like that one a few months ago for $20. He was a gorgeous snake, but still a normal. Wish it had been a female.
