its also their store policy to abuse reptiles, and give false husbandry information about all of their reptiles.
since when do cornsnakes eat lettuce?
should turtles be housed with chinese water dragons?
then their supposed vets are nothing but jokes.

their dog training is an even bigger joke. they wanted me to let me "train" my dog when my dog was the only one in the store not trying to jump on customers or trying to run and bark. the only time mine misbehaves is when one of the other dogs is showing aggression to her in which case her hair will stand up and she takes a defensive posture, but she will still listen to me

i went in there to see if i could rescue a beardie for my girlfriends twin sis. seeing as i know they are not usually taken care of well in big chains. well they had one. it wasnt curious or active like they should be it was a lump. and seeing as they had soooooo little herp stuff there i didnt get it because i was even skeptical of the fact they they would have the proper packaging to trans port it home when the temperature was sub zero outside.

do you mean a cardboard box isnt proper packaging:rofl:
i wouldnt get a beardie or anything else from there.
from the sounds of it that beardie probally has some issues. more that likely a heavy parasite load candidate

with wind chill it feels like -29*C some nights

-18*F = = -0.4*F soo yah and they probably didnt have a box anyhow :P

For all of these petsmart employees. I have to ask how you feed the snakes when there is several in a cage do you take each one out and feed it separately and then keep it out for atleast 24 hours and bath it so that the smell of food is no longer on the animal. When I feed my snakes during breeding season I was always told that you need to keep them apart after feeding to keep from canibalism. I would think this could be very important especially with kingsnakes seeing that there food of choice is snake. But what do i know I have only been keeping snakes for almost 10 years now. I also would like to know how you get all those ball pythons to take frozen mice straight out of the egg. I can tell that most of the stock at these stores is only about a month old at that unless you are only feeding them once a month. Most breeders take several weeks if not months to get a baby to switch over to frozen. Unless everyone i know is lying to me and thats only my problem.

no to mention you ever see 2 snakes constrict on one pray item? NEVER turns out pretty... and i agree how do you get a snake to eat F/T out of the egg when they are pre programmed for live due to years of evolution.

I think a big reason why corporate insists employees stick to telling customers the official corporate approved care and husbandry policies is for standardization. They need to have a standard, so that no matter what location a customer goes to they will receive the same information. Unfortunately the standard care and husbandry information isn't always good.

But like someone mentioned it saves them from an unhappy customer saying they received differing information from each store. There are plenty of people who think they know what they are talking about, and think they are helping, when in fact they are giving equally bad or worse advice than the official caresheet employees are supposed to abide by.

The big chain petstores rely on misinformed, uneducated people to buy their animals. Its worked for years, so why change? The money is coming in, so who cares if a few animals die? To us it's a poor helpless animal that died. To corporate it's just numbers, a business expense, a write-off. Sad but true.
