Re: what do you keep your ASF's in
I have a question thats semi-related to this topic...

I've found a local breeder who has some for sale finally and I'm set to pick them up on Wednesday. Now the only thing he can supply for me to hold them in until I get home are cardboard holders with holes in them. I'm driving 2 hours to pick these guys up and I don't see this as a very safe option. I have 2 15qt steralite tubs I plan on bringing with holes all over the lids and a latching lid.

Do you think they'll bite through and possibly escape this tub on the way home?

I think you'll be fine. I keep mine in a sterlite 24/7 and they are good. If you doubt the top, bring a bungie cord or a heavy book to stay on top. You'll be good to go.

Re: what do you keep your ASF's in
I am keeping mine in a 60q sterilite.

I am rather enjoying it. I have only had em in there a week. I am tweaking as I go. I am going to put the wheel on the side instead of on the lid.

I am unsure of placing the food hopper on the lid. I would like to try it and see how it goes. Right now I am using a basic food hopper like the kind you buy @ the feed store.

The problem with the food hopper I am using now is they throw the food out and hide in the hopper. So I am going to try a hopper in the lid made out of the hard ware cloth.

Has any one tried to mount the wheel on the side? If so how did it work?

I picked up a trio of ASF's I drove 2 hours home and stopped a couple of times they spent the majority of the trip in a card board shoe box. I stopped at a pet store and bought a small plastic carry cage for them. It was kinda cramped but it had a lot of bedding in it and they just burrowed down and hid for the whole trip.

I think you should be fine with the card board box and the only reason I stopped and got the carry case is because I broke the rubber band that was on the box.

If you are only getting one trio I would stop and get a small case. If you are getting more than one I would get a case for each one and if you are getting more than a trio I would get a larger case.

Mine are in a rack system.

They are on the top level. 1.2 in each tub.

I was using tubs for my ASF but they seem to love to chew on the tubs so now I am looking for metal cages that they cant chew through!
