Re: britney spears... such a shame
I may catch some flack for this but I agree with kim.
Now I'm not saying that Brittney doesn't have any blame, but there were somethings beyond her control. If you watch the vma's (i had dvrd it cause I couldn't watch it when it came on) yes it looked like a train wreck. When they said her heel was broken, i went back and re-watched her performance and on her second step you can see the heel snap sideways. That alone could account for her "zombie walk" and the fact that she didn't do much but shuffle around the stage like a George A. Romero reject.
As far as the lip syncing, it was horrrrrrible and completely her fault for not being on time. The only thing I can say about that, is she wasn't the only one with the horrible lip syncing. Chris Brown and Nelly Furtado had some pretty bad lip syncing also.
With her weight, I think she looks very good for a woman who's had two kids. So she's not toothpick thin. She looks healthy, she's just a littler thicker, I do agree though, knowing how hollywood treats so called "fatties" I wouldn't suggest going out there in a bra and panties.
The nappy hair and the Sarah silverman thing: well the nappy hair I didn't really notice so I can't say much there, but I could see how the comment by Sarah Silverman could have bothered her, but I think part of being a professional is putting that outta your mind and going out and doing the job you're getting paid to do.
Just my :2cent:

I think our real disagreement lies in the distinction between what constitutes an influence vs. what constitutes a role model. Sure paris may influence the style she wears, and the methods of rebellion she chooses, but she's in her early 20's and paris is an icon for that generation.
What I really think shows someone's role models is the way they approach life, and how they process information. I would be willing to bet that, given your involvement in your daughter's upbringing, your differences will dissipate as she gets older, and the level of your influence becomes apparent.

Re: britney spears... such a shame
As a twenty two year old in college, I don't know anyone who honestly admires Paris or Britney. Also, I can't help but feel very, very little sympathy for them; christ, look at how much money they have, it's not like they're really suffering in any meaningful way.
Also, just as a personal rant, anyone complaining about the quality of music today clearly isn't listening to the right stuff. In the 60s and 70s, sure there were great bands, but most of those were underground rather than mainstream. Today, there's the same situation. Bands like The Decemberists, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Arcade Fire, Air, Mos Def, Brazilian Girls, etc., etc. go ignored while Spears is focused upon. In fifty years, there will be a different emphasis on classic rock stations. I mean seriously, who really liked Donovan?

Ouch... Please don't lump me in with all of those girls that follow that kind of trend and have no personality or style of their own. I just turned 21, and I'm about as far from being a Paris fan as possible. I don't want to offend anyone who is a fan, but I don't agree with the bleached blond straighten hair, and the tiny painted on clothes. I would rather wear what's comfortable and work with what God gave me than cover up everything that makes me unique. I know for my friends and I the whole Paris thing is just another star that has gone wrong.....except for the fact that she hasn't done anything to become a star....at least Brittany had to work for it at first.
I do feel bad for Brittany. I wasn't ever a huge fan, but I did listen to her music when she first came out. I think I'm a lot different than other girls, b/c although I liked her music, I never had any desire to look or act like her. She, like most child stars, has no idea what to do when they are on their own. I feel bad for her, but on the other hand, with her having been a performer for so long, she should have known when she was ready to come back.
On a side note, if I look that good after I have two kids I would be *thrilled* to death!!
