Golgo I just have to say how impressed I am with your grasp of the written english language. Your posts are wonderful and it's a great thing to see even more people from around our big world joining BPNet. :)

Now I also wanted to follow-up on Judy's comments about driving around with a snake loose in the car. Her points are very well made and I hope those reading do pay mind to them. As well as a responsible snake owner you must always think of how your individual actions in public affect all the rest of us. There are new laws EVERY day being presented and passed to limit our rights to own snakes. These laws are often brought forth because of someone's poor decisions that have scared the general public, caused a problem or gotten someone hurt.

I've read that there are places in the U.S. where it's now illegal to have a simple cornsnake because of laws that include them under "constrictors". The fact is the general public is often nervous of our snakes and as much as we should educate and promote responsible, caring snakekeeping we must also remember that every action in public with our snakes is seen and noted. What you choose to do can affect my rights so I ask each of you to choose wisely and remember there is a larger community of people that don't want to see our rights curtailed anymore than they already are.

Gib you really can't visually tell they are sleeping other than they don't flick their tongues and appear relaxed. We have developed certain habits with our snakes (snakes are BIG on routine). When we want to handle them or not startle them while cage cleaning, we simply reach in and gently stroke them down their lower body, avoiding the head and after awhile they know this means we are there and going to lift them out. If you do something over and over and over again with a BP most of them will recognize this simple routine as meaning something to them.

As for being tame, watch your snake eat - that's power and instinct and it's been going on long before you ever existed. This is not a "tame" pet, this is a snake with all the wonderful instincts nature gave it. Even born captive, I don't believe snakes are ever fully tame nor should be. I hope every one of my snakes retains it's wild nature as in allowing me to interact with it, I get great pleasure and respect for these gorgeous creatures. I've always considered it one of the greatest gifts in my life when one of our snakes allows me to share it's daily life. :)
