Having kept Burmese Pythons before myself, and seeing countless healthy specimens cared for properly, I can assure anyone in doubt that the snake pictured by this thread's author is NOT healthy nor is it being kept anywhere close to properly. The only thing "High" about this person's herps is the level of neglect and abuse that they are being subjected to.

It looks like that pic was taken right after eating the 60 lb pig he talks about. I at one time had 9 burmese pythons, the largest being 18 ft and 175 lbs. It was nowhere near that big around, but she only got fed large rabbits every 14 days. I really never saw a reason to feed them that large of prey. I also don't have burmese pythons anymore and never bred them.

I do not believe for a second that the picture was taken post-meal. Even at the peak of digestion, a snake's stomach is not going to bloat that much. That snake is no doubt going to suffer an uncomfortable demise at the hands of liver, kidney and cardiac failure.

You ever seen how big a 60 lb pig is? There is no doubt that pic was taken after a meal. There is also no doubt that snake is completely over weight and in an enclosure too small for its size.

You're right....the pic very well could've been taken post-meal. What I initially intended to imply in my previous post is that I do not believe that the snake is not merely fat from a recent meal. Pre-existing health issues induced by an improper feeding regimen are the cause of the obesity in this particular animal. I apologize for my mis-communication.

On another note, people with large constrictors. Just because your snake can swallow large prey, doesn't mean they should. ;)

When I mentioned that this would put more of a financial strain on an owner who could barely afford it(the reason they should get it for cheaper than normal) and that doing this with balls or even boas would be smarter, he replied that to get a 10 lb rabbit for a large boid like this is sometimes cheaper than getting a medium rat. If it only takes a rabbit of that size, or for his sake we will say a 15 lb rabbit since this snake is so big, why feed it a 60 lb pig? Where are you getting 15 lb rabbits from that it is cheaper than a medium rat?

I hate to break it to you, Mr. Beauchemin, but I am no stranger to the proper care of giant boids. You can lay that sheet of garbage elsewhere I'm afraid. The evidence you have presented here amounts to nothing but pure and simple abuse of the animals with whose care and well-being you are entrusted with. It saddens me greatly to see you not only flaunt your negligible husbandry practices publicly, but that you have the audacity to defend them and then imply that those people who see through your veil are ignorant nare-do-wells on a misguided proverbial witch-hunt. Somehow in this situation, you are the benevolent victim? I find this laughable to say the least, and infuriating at most. You have neither my wish of goodwill nor my respect as a fellow human being and herpetoculturist.

FWIW, I can get small rabbits, 1.5-2lbers, for $2-$3 apiece, and they're already frozen and bagged up. But I agree, no snake needs 60lbs of anything to eat... Puts way too much stress on the heart while digesting, and just the amount of fat in that pig will put a great strain on the digestive system.
