Re: Congratulations, New Jerseyians!
When you get married...arnt most of the people marrying you preachers? Christain preachers? Like i stated above about our christian heratige, it is a sin to be gay. Is that a reason that gay marrege is illegal in some states?

Re: Congratulations, New Jerseyians!
Anyone of any religion can be married legally by a Justice of the Peace. (someone correst me if I am wrong.)

Re: Congratulations, New Jerseyians!
Jen, you aren't wrong! And there are also non-religious ordained ministers, which is what my husband and I were married by. We're atheists, and our marriage is just as valid as anyone else's.
I would love it if the US had true seperation. As it is right now, neither the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights has any bearing on how the country is actually run.

That's a symbolic marriage. Married by a preacher or not you still have to get a marriage license, given by a justice of the peace or other official. I don't intend to get married in a church!
America and Canada have a Christian heritage, which I repsect, but it's time to realise that America and Canada are not based on Christianity; church and state are seperate, and truly should be (but aren't in many cases). The reason it's still illegal in 48 states is that people are voting with a religious conviction, instead of considering what it means to the country.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't live by your religion, I mean people who don't really consider what gay marriage means to them and just go along with anything anyone religious says.

Re: Congratulations, New Jerseyians!
Mousch, dont you think that it would be a good idea to let this thread die out?
This is a subject that could get us all fighting back and forth with one another.
And I also think that it is a slap in the face to most new jerseyians, congratulations are not in order here. show a little respect to the 90% that do not agree with you. just let this thread drop.
We do not need to be arguing amongst ourselves like those MKR threads make us do everytime they pop up. :)

No jamie, I speak for myself only. ;)
The gay population is estimated at 10%. thats were I get the 90% figure. :)
I have seen so much divisiveness on other sites, dont want to see it here. I look at this site as my sanctuary and a friendly place. :)

Thats cool. Although even if your stats are right, that doesn't mean 90% disagree with the decision. :)
Bp.net is my happy place as well...

The majority of New Jersey residents are in favour of the decision.
I understand it's a divisive issue, but it made me really happy so I wanted to congratulate anyone positively affected by the law. I can understand disagreeing with it, but there are a lot of things that I disagree with but I accept as part of my life.
My boyfriend used to think we should "ship them all out to sea and nuke them" and now has no problem with it, so I'm just an optimist.
