Oh that's great news Aleesha. We've got feral cats next door but I can't figure out how to catch them. They won't let anyone approach and already one of the last litter was run over on our street. :(

i'm not sure if heather ended up using the live trap or if she just caught this one. the rest were caught by hand though. i'm soooo happy knowing they'll have good homes, will be fixed and not be living in the wild.

So the red tears that look like blood are from stress? oh thank god! I have went throught just about every kind of bedding money can buy and after over $100 worth of different beddings my male is still tearing up with the red stuff. I thought it was allergies (sp?) but I guess the male is stressed because my mama rat went in to heat and he cant get to her.

he is literaly tareing up his cage and chiped a tooth trying to get to her by chewing on the bars.

I have given him chew toys and he wont touch them, he just runs franticaly around his cage chewing on the bars.

it's also a sign of other illness as well. her tears only lasted a few hours.

Jessie, how close is he to this female? Also rats hate to be alone so he may be much happier being not so close to the female and having another male rat of about his size and age to hang out with, play with, groom, etc. How did you determine the female was in heat?

well to answer all of your questions, The male is on the other side of the room in a 2 story rat cage. I can buy another male, he was housed with 20 other males when I got him and a bunch of other males. (I fed off the other males and keept him for his temperment)

I was told by the breeder when i got the rats that the best way to see if a female is in heat is if her stuff is a little pink and is shiny with a fluid. not dripping or anything. and once I saw him running about the first time i looked at my female and she was looking the way down there I was told and .. wamo there are babies now. I did place my other breeder female in with him and he calmed right down. no breeding yet like the first time.

Him and the others are going to the vet once the babies are bigger and there eyes are open.
