Re: Loo-Kistic or Loo-Systic?
Pronunciation has alot to do with where you have grown up and how those around you pronounce certain things....
http://www.uta.fi/FAST/US1/P1/RSV/jokela.html
http://www.ling.upenn.edu/phono_atlas/ICSLP4.html
soda, pop, cola, soda pop...they are all basically the same thing, however, depending on what part of the US you come from, you will not be using the same word as another in another part of the US to describe that refreshing carbonated cold drink...
you all, y'all.... same thing, different ways of saying it... also depends on what part of the US you come from....
then, there are those words, that sound alike, but are not spelled alike, nor have the same meaning...
thier, there
hair, hare
bare, bear
pear, pair
oh, got to love those spelled alike, but have different meanings...
tears.. as in crying type tears
tears.. tears a muscle (meniscal tear- One of the most commonly injured parts of the knee)
Oh yes, our launguage (english) is pretty confusing in its own right... no wonder it is the hardest language to master, especially if you did not grow up speaking it....
OH yeah--- loo-syst-ic..... thats how I pronounce that!
Re: Loo-Kistic or Loo-Systic?
Well, up here in the northwest we say "fer" as opposed to "for", to the utter amusement of out of towners.
Of course, a "boid" in New York has wings and is fully capable of flying :).
