Animal cruelty is animal cruelty, if a dog ran at me and my wife and was growling i would tell her to run back to the house and try to distract the dog and keep anything from happening..

If the dog was standing near our cars, I would grab some meat and try to get him to leave so we could get in, not go get a paintball gun and ligiht him up.

    LMAO.... that is hilarious!!

Unrealistic as it can possibly get.... but hilarious, thanks for the laugh, that lightens the mood! :) :sweeet:

I suppose the realistic thing is to injure or attack the dog in some way. Real cool :colbert:

If you took the time to re-read the earlier post, the dog was not attacking them, and he had time to get a paintball gun, I doubt he had it holstered and whipped it out and backed away covering their escape lol.

You can try to lighten the mood by belittling my non violent approach to dealing with loose animals, but I really find it disgusting what some people have posted in this thread. Im not going to let a dog attack me if I can defend myself, but I dont think it is right to go out of the way to paintball one either... I mean let's face it, this super dangerous dog was turned away by a paintball gun, sure they hurt and can break the skin at close distance, but if it was a wild dog wouldnt that just make it more likely to attack?

Whatever, you guys keep digging the hole, Im done listening to this stuff. I think Gin had the right idea in the first place.

If you read his posts, he never hits the dog.... hmmmmmmmmmm, just places the shots near enough to mark it with splatter..... hmmmmmmmmmmm. You didn't read that did you?

I just wanna see how your not going to let a dog attack you if you can defend yourself. How does that work? You won't let?

I hope the dog doesn't decide to make its own mind up on that..... but that would be time to whip out the T-bone I guess :)

Or I just read it wrong.

We don't have a local Animal control where I am hince the dog fighting.

See your thinking about this to the tune of poor poor pittyfull dog. But I would bet my next years salery to say that your tune would change on the ride to the ER to have your kids face stitched back on or in the ambliance while your wife fites for her life cause a 90lb dog knocked her down and got to her throat. I can protect my family far quicker than the ASPCA of animal control.

Of course, you don't live in my area, so whether you think they are a problem or not isn't relevant. You can research points, stats all you want, they are generalized and bare no relection on localized situations.

Of course, the over looked point is local wildlife has suffered in my street needlessly. Which I think is sad.

Your right...the truth of the stituation is hard to get at......but that's what systematic scienitific studies uncover. Just because you've seen less doesnt mean that any lizards are endangered, and just because you seen some cats kill some doesnt make them the responsible culprit in your area.

It could be a problem......but it just speculation. And there are there
better ways to deal with it if it is a problem than paint gun vigilantism or capturing and shaving a cat.....that's not going to help with any pest problem. I think that these "funny" solutions are very juvenille, uncreative, and un-Mr Rogers like...I dont think a neighbor is going to like you spattering his cat with paint even if it on your property.

Hunting could help.....but most people arent going to accept that unless it is shown pretty conclusively that cats are a pest in your county, state, etc. or unless there are laws in place like those in Oregon. "Hunting" with a pait ball gun isnt going to put an animal down its just going to inflict unecessary pain.

I assumed they were stray since you stated you were trying to find homes for them.

Alomst any species can become a pest....
Other threads on this forum have claimed that balls are considered pests in parts of Africa.......luckily importion of these animals is pretty win-win in most instances.......in most parts of the US bps will not established themselves as an exotic species pest and Africans can help put food on their table and avoid things similiar to "rattlesnake round-ups"? Would u like to see Africans shotting ball pythons with paint balls? How does this help anyone? Arent their better solutions? I realize you werent the one that brough up some of these actions up, but you did seem ok with it. If you dont like one in your yard how about just running at it and scaring it away.......

My view is our species is number one in my book. (and I think a lot of people books they just dont want to admit it.) However, we have to be respectful...if it isnt to feed people, help biodiversity, generate knowledge /therapies/medicines through biological/biomedical research than why inflicit unecessary pain or death on any animal?

I just didnt like the general tone of the discussion and I think you contributed to that by starting a thread titled "I hate cats"......I dont really see how you can hate a vetebrate...."I hate malaria" that makes some sense to me....

Although cats hurt some species, I think your overlooking the joy this animal brings to a lot of people.

I think you would have more people listen to valid points of your message if you had titled your thread something like....."Could cats in my area be hurting local reptile species?" I dont think any of this uneccessary vigilantism talk would have come up.

Just a suggestion.....I realize that sometime we make up threads on the net and there is no tone in our voice.....you may have been joking with the title. But you have to consider this when titling a thread. Different modes of communication require different language, etc. (Hey I've made this mistake as well..I think most of us on here at some point do to some degree)

What about Ultrasonic dog replents? They are tiny enought that one can carry it around in their pockets and it does a good job of keeping surly dogs away from you without hurting the animal. No need to carry a paintball gun or a T-bone around with you. :2cent:

Yup, the thread topic could of been way better. Trying to help the guy get some homes because they are breeding at his house....in his house I should say.

The topic does seem to of split into two issues, one about cats, another about dogs paint ball guns... issues of safety etc.

While I don't like the cats on my property, I won't shoot them. I have always returned the ones that don't mind being picked up.

Yes cats bring joy, we have one too! LOL

I am totally for self-defense.....protection of property...but some people take this a bit too far.

Self-defense and neighborhood eco-vigilantism are two different things however.
