white's tree frogs

I would personally fear keeping mine outside in a pond. I would be afraid in fall it would be too difficult to find all of them and my frogs are first and foremost, pets.

Very nice frogs sisco, not a problem at all keeping them outside in extreme southern jersey. the benefits outweight the risks. They absolutly thrive outside. constantly feeding on wild insects. one of the keys is a small pond so it can be totally inclosed so nothing can eat them and they can't get out. late in the summer there are hundreds of baby frogs. at some point I deciede its time to bring them in for the winter, the ponds get drained to remove the tadpoles so they dont freeze to death in the winter. I have been doing this for years and its most enjoyable sitting out at nite listening to the frogs singing. :P


If its too cold in maine to keep your frogs out all the time, try and put them out on the warmest days and you will see the benefits of the sun immediately. :)

It sounds like a great idea. I am sure I would fret a bit at first. Do you have a picture or two of your outside pond so that I may get some ideas.

I keep my tegu lizards outside all summer. The summers in Maine are hot and humid during the day and nice and warm at night (fan or A/C running inside just to sleep). I do not think temps or humidity would be an issue. As stated above. I would love to see how your outside pond enclosure is set up. Perhaps I will set something up outside and try a few of my frogs outside. I have 11 adult WTF's that I have inside in various naturalistic enclosures with UVB, but there really is no substitute for natural sunlight.

Can you snap a few pictures of your frog pond setup? I would be interested in seeing how you did it. Perhaps I will try doing the same here if I can get over the fear of them escaping or not being able to find them in the fall.

Ed, this sounds like a lot of fun to me too but being in MN I don't know how long they could be out, maybe only 2-3 months of the year. What kind of temp extremes can they handle? How big are your ponds and enclosures? Do you hang up any lights for heat or to attract bugs? What do you feed during the summer months? You've always had great looking frogs, this outdoor living must be pretty agreeable to them.
