Ah, I was in a bit of a hurry last night, but I signed as well, amongst other things. Letting something this preposterous get through would be insane. It's sad to see that parts of the government are focusing on trivial things like our harmless pets instead of trying to do any real, helpful work. *sighs*

I get that, but what is the exclusion being filed under? Where is it being filed? By whom? When will it be filed?

http://ceq.hss.doe.gov/ NEPA, or the National Environmental Protection Act, the exclusion would give the USFWS (the United States Federal Wildlife Service, who is wanting the exclusion) the full control of what animals (any at all) they deem necessary to add to the Lacey Act to "create harmony between man and nature" by stating constricting snakes are a detriment to natural wildlife.

As for when? I believe it's the end of this month before we go before a committee which will decide yea or nay on whether they can continue in their efforts to get the exclusion.

Where? Well, I imagine Washington D.C. because this is a federal enactment. No citizen is exempt from the rules they create if they win.

Thank you for explaining and providing the link. Scary stuff. I'm familiar with NEPA and I didn't realize that the USFWS themselves were applying. Do you know if USARK is doing anything to fight this at present?

And I wasn't trying to call you out or sharpshoot you. I knew that you knew and I was curious. Thanks again.

No worries! I wish I would've thought out more my information in the petition itself. Yeah, USARK was promoting some email and snail mail drives to get the word to your rep. in the federal legislature about opposing it should it make it out of committees.

We physically signed the petitions, and I believe it was organized by the Madison Area Herpetological Society: http://madisonherps.org/

I could not find any further information on both their website and on their forum.

Just a thought...I know we don't want multiple petitions out there for the same thing, but it might not be a bad idea to look at some of the petition sites like Change.org or moveon.org. I am constantly getting requests to sign petitions for things similar to this and they reach a lot of people everyday.

I'm gonna be upset if the gecko community I posted the petition to gets more signatures than we could.

I signed it even though it would now appear futile...

I have signed this petition as well as doing all the USARK things, such as contacting the USFWS in four different manners and contacting our Senator. I have also retweeted USARK's tweets, tweeted this petition and used our Facebook for this petition and USARK's links. We're just starting to get our hobby/business off the ground and hope to someday turn our love for reptiles and the hobby into a full business. It kills us to see that threatened in a country that, "you have the freedom to follow whatever dreams you have." Just our .02 cents.

Thank you to everyone who is helping fight for our hobby!
