Supportive better half? Who has it and who doesn't?

haha! I take care of them all, but she sure likes them, too. She wasn't that excited at first when I wanted to bring one home. We're not pet people. But BPs are AWESOME! I love that they're quiet and mellow. I LOVE my wife, too! So glad she's not terrified of them.

My wife is the best! At first,when I wanted to get back into snakes she was a little nervous, but she slowly started to like the bps and now we actually discuss the "next" purchase. She has her Leo collection and loves the hypo and albino bps. She has also cleaned the snakes for me while on business trips but she will not feed the snakes and I don't expect her to. She will not mess with the rats except to water or feed. Overall she supports my hobby 100% and i really appreciate it.

I just got my first BP (first snake for me). My wife was cool with me getting one and so that was my Bday present this year.

My wife hates rodents but already has grown to tolerate having a live one in the house and watches the feeding. She didn't want me to feed live and I didn't want to unless we had to and we will have to for a little while until she is eating consistently then the F/T switch will happen. She is very patient and doing better than I thought with the Rat thing. She loves our BP and is totally supportive. I am not sure if we will just have one, or if more are in our future.

She is awesome in every aspect of life and though she is not a pet person she suggested reptiles as something of a good fit. We got a Beardie (RIP, cause = tumor), likes our leo but loves our BP! She has held our BP more than any other pet. We have only had the BP for a little over a month.

This thread took off! I had my girlfriend read my post and she got really smiley :) She read a lot of the posts on here. Thanks for sharing everyone.

Brandan, my boyfriend, was scared of snakes, spiders, etc when we first got together. He had never really had any animals besides a couple cats and a dog his whole life and he was a bit of a wussy-face, very scared of "bugs."

I have had lots of reptiles in the past but never had a snake. In part due to my mom being a bit freaked out by them when I was younger, and partly I had always thought all snakes needed to continually be moved to bigger and bigger enclosures and it seemed like too much hassle. I've never been at all scared of any of them, just wasn't interested.

At some point in 2010 I was idly looking on Craigslist and looking at the corn snake ads. I started researching them and decided I really, really wanted one. Bdan was a bit iffy but agreed. We went to the Phoenix Reptile Expo a week later and brought home Cthulhu, an anery-motley who's our pride and joy.:snake::) I also got a tiny rose hair 'sling. Bdan was very timid with them at first but he's gotten a lot better and almost doesn't flinch if they jerk now lol. He even really likes and will hold our T's and recently got his own chaco 'sling.

After having such a good experience with the corn and seeing and holding balls and seeing all the morphs we both decided we wanted to breed. So we really got into it together. Now he's just as obsessed as I am, if still a touch nervous.:gj: He's gotten over his trepidation very nicely.

Oh and he's obsessed with the rats. He says it's because of their "little hands." I barely have to do any the rat-care, he takes care of them and I mostly tend to the snakes. I'm very lucky to have him, couldn't ask for a better mate :)

I wish my husband would be more supportive of my snake hobby. He's not scared of them or anything like that, but he doesn't understand why I want to breed them and have a snake business when we both do well with our regular jobs and don't need need to make money from snakes. He really doesn't appreciate the different morphs either and refers to my snakes as "inanimate objects." How he sees it is that my snakes take up a lot of time that could otherwise be spent with him. While that's kind of sweet, it really annoys me, too. I feel like I am constantly trying to reduce my collection to please him, and I have to try to do most of the feeding and cares while he is not home, so it won't seem like I am spending time on snakes that I could otherwise be spending with him. In all fairness, I do have a lot of snakes, but I really don't it's the "problem" he seems to think it is.....

My husband tolerates my snakes. He doesn't help me with them other than buy their food(I don't expect more than that). I'm hoping to breed eventually, so I've been looking for a possible pair. He doesn't get the difference in morphs and what that difference means in prices. Its almost impossible to get the okay on anything. Every time I show him what I'm thinking of getting his first response is either "how much is it?" or "that's nice". I'm hoping we can make it to the show around here in 3 weeks and get him more interested if not more involved.

I lucked out because my girlfriend is a genetics major so she was super into it. Haha before that I would have to ease them into the conversation and see what their reaction was. It was interesting usually to say the least.

My partner just left me yesterday after 4 years, and the fact that I have 3 snakes was a part of it. Maybe I'll have better luck next time. At least the stories here mean there is hope!
