Re: Can I bring my snake in the park, mall, etc etc where dogs are allowed
I think it would be ok to bring the snake to the park. I personally HATE when people bring their big huge dogs to the park, they scare me--but people do it any way, and I never give them weird looks. I just stay out of the way.
(Reason for fear: I'm 4'11 tall, and those dogs could knock me over so easily. Ouch!)
I would hope that others would extend the same courtesy. However, people are stupid. People are mean. People are crazy. You can't rely on them to be sane about anything, or to react appropriately--which would often be to not react at all. :(
I guess it's up to you.

chill everyone, chill. wth, i'm just asking if its legal.

my snake for some reason is pretty friendly, i brought it ones with like 20 of us in a party coz my friends asked me to bring him and my snake was pretty okay with it, and almost everyone in the party appreciated him and that was their first time to actually handle a snake. my snake neither really go to the 'ball stance' nor 'attack S mode', he just likes smelling everyone lol.

for everyone who said i'm trying to grab attention, well i am not. in fact, that's lame to think in the first place that that is my plan, that's pretty judgemental. and to that person asking me to have some tats, i actually do have it and its on my chest and back where people wont actually see it till i took my shirt off. im not really an attention grabber person, i just like tats too coz for me its art and fun to look at after i shower and after hitting the gym.

the reason im planning to do that, is coz i could have something to have fun with in the park and not exactly bore me.. i'm not really a dog person, more of a snake person i would say. lol.

you see, i treat my snake as my buddy, he always hangs out beside me when i'm using my computer and all that. basically, he is out of his cage most of the time, and most of the time beside me or around me.

oh well, but i guess you made your point, parks are not good since people will freak out.. about stressing my snake, i dunno, maybe, but he is kinda used to different people touching him and he seems to be liking it.. he's pretty sociable. lol

The only reason that I can understand why someone would take their snake to a public area would be for shock value.

Keep it at home. People probably won't think you're "cool" for taking your snake out in public. All it'll do is reinforce the belief that snakes should be banned, because people are ignorant. They'll see a 5' long BP and think that it is going to reach 13' and be eating human babies in a weeks time. 99.9% of people don't know the difference. So to keep harm away from your snake, keep it at home.

This is with exceptions that your dog/snake isn't harmful. If some one called the cops they would get in trouble because there is nothing illegal about having a snake. Also this goes for the laws in my City and State not sure if they are Federal laws or not but before you try doing anything I would look up your City and State laws.

Wow - I work for an organization that trains service dogs. You can't just SAY that your dog is with your for medical purposes if it has not been certified as a service dog.

Last I checked, there's no such thing as a service snake.

And yes - in some areas it IS illegal to have a ball python - including San Francisco where the OP lives.

That...is kindof horrible right there. So many levels of dishonesty! This is me not being amused or impressed.

I'm all for dog-friendly stores, and I love carting my little Cricket with me wherever I can (and her small size makes it easier than, say, my friends who have large dogs) but I would never take her where she isn't welcome.

On the subject of snakes in parks...I think people need to decide for themselves. If a snake is stressy or prone to stress, I wouldn't reccomend it...but I disagree that taking a pet with you is purely for attention or shock value. On the (admittedly rare) occasions where I've had my snakes out in public, even those who are afraid are often keen to ask questions, and it gives me an opportunity to explain that snakes aren't evil or whatever.

But again, to each his own.

Re: Can I bring my snake in the park, mall, etc etc where dogs are allowed
I was referring to if there are no laws pertaining to the snakes. Always abide by the laws but if there isnt, go for it and if you dont like the outcome then dont do it again. Personally i live in PA on a farm and back in the woods so im pretty used to doing what i want with nobody to tell me otherwise. Id have to double check on the laws of snakes in public around here but if its not illegal, i wouldnt hesitate to take it to my local park. Guys at my work want me to bring it in sometime so they can check it out. And none of them are fond of snakes but are still curious about it. And if you really want a simple answer to why take a snake to the park? Its because its a companion. Maybe its not the same companion as a dog or cat but its still a companion to some of us. If its like mine, its used to people but not other animals. Id take mine to a regular park but probably not a animal park. You guys can call me ignorant but i just dont care what somebody else thinks about me having a snake. And i would never do anything that would seriously hurt any of my animals. To the OP, you asked for an opinion on taking the snake out, I say do it if you can be responsible about it. If you want to listen to everyone else than thats fine too. Im not here to tell you what to do, only give my open opinion. I can see everyones point with other people not liking it and depending on the weather can be very uncomfortable for the snake. But at the same time you gotta look at it as, "if its legal" why should you care what someone else thinks. And you gotta use a little common sense about the weather too. I understand the stress factor but thats also knowing the snake. I have my snake out alot and he doesnt act stressed, scared, or anything unless one of my cats come nearby. Hes used to being out and around people.

Re: Can I bring my snake in the park, mall, etc etc where dogs are allowed
In instances like this, i think of the animals welfare first and foremost. It might be legal to take a snake to the park, but in my mind, i would think would i want to see a snake at the park or in the mall, and then i would be thinking of what kind of stress the snake might be going through, being out in the open like that.
Snakes are secretive by nature, they prefer to remain hidden, it makes them feel secure, so by taking them out of their secure settings, you would be putting undeserved stress on your pet.
Myself, i have never thought about bringing any of my snakes outside in a public setting, and i never will do it.

This is just my opinion, of course:)

There is a guy in st louis that drives around in the summer with his windows open and the BP is wrapped around the wing mirror. Obviously attention seeking and prob scares the hell out the snake.
I dont see a problem taking ur snake to the park. if it's curious and likes to look around it might be nice for the snake; however, i'd do it well away from crowds and try not to let people see.....just incase:rofl:

Because your ignorance is just about big enough to drive a Semi through.

You can't just take you dog to the park. You can't have it running loose. Not out here. There ARE laws against it. Here if you don't have the right permits, you're not supposed to have a great many animals.

You have every right to your ignorance and I see that you have firmly embraced it. Perhaps if you give up on that death hold it has on your brain you'll understand that it's NOT just about YOU.

ALL of us are affected by ALL of us. One idiot is all it takes to bring bad publicity down on all of us.

DON'T go to the park. I've given you sound and solid reasons not to. Others have done the same. Other than getting attention for YOU, there is no reason to take your snake there.

And if your snake is pooping whole mouse parts, and you're still thinking of taking it to the park, you are either woefully uneducated or just the type of idiot we don't need in this hobby.

Theres no need to insult people dude. People have their own opinions and and are entitled to express them. You dont have to go and tell them to a an ass tattooed on them and call them an idiot. It just makes you look like a not so nice guy:.
