Well hopefully it was very large and heavy rock. Like a boulder. Its a gruesome thought but at least the snake is not going to suffer anymore.

Man, I feel bad that you got put in that situation, and Ihope that the people who let that happen to their snake feel bad every time they look at their empty tank. I do the same thing when I come across other snake owners. I ask what kind of set-up they are using, feeding, etc... I tell them about this forum and a couple others, hoping they will join and see what they may be doing wrong. The fact is, it seems alot people believe they are doing it right because the pet store told them a certain way and they don't want to be told anything different, and alot of times, it's the animals that pay for their stubborn ignorance...

    RIP little guy... :(

im not a professional snake killer, but one hit, is all it took, do you want details and splatter distand, not to be an arse, but it was quick swift and metally not a walk in the park we have an emergancy vet, not specializing in herps but a vet, called and told the situation, on 65:00 to put it down, now if it was less than 200, to make it well.... well i could swing that and not have gas for a while. but the vet told me the same thing here, it would be almost impossble for it to make a full recovery, it wasn't a herp specialist but the work on normal problems, RIs, and smaller stuff, but with all the advice here. im not rich and im not poor, but im no gonna pay half 100 bucks to do what i can do..

I'm not a snake, but I'll take blunt trauma to the head over freezing anyday. May not sound classy but I bet it was quick.

Unsupervised feeding that results in any injuries really agitates me. When I explain to non-snake owners that if the snake doesn't eat the rat then the rat will eat the snake they just look at me confused. They just picture BPs as unstoppable killing machines and can't fathom BP's needing to be protected against rats.

I will be saving these pictures and will be showing them as examples to any 1st time snake owners buying one of my BPs.

Sucks you had to take the responsibility for it in that shape though. I applaud you for wanting to do right by the snake and it sucks there was little to no chance of recovery for the little guy.

agent, please take the pics, print them or whatever, i want everyone to see it, though not to stand up for owner, but the mice i put in my tubs, seem to minless wonder or chew on the paper substrate, till snake gets it, the way the onwer describe the mouse plunged and attack it after a while of being in cage.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but this shows you should always monitor your snake when feeding live. I wish you and your snake the best of luck, but at that point it looks like a vet trip, I dont think a vet would be able to fix that though, im sorry.

OMG you killed it! Reptiles can heal from wounds way worse! Turtles get legs bitten off all the time! Snakes lose eyes too!

Rhyno47, do you have any pics of snakes with exposed spines that healed up fine? I'd be interested in seeing that. Limbs off turtles or eye removal is way different than half the length of the snake eaten down to the spine.

Still down to bone. Plus the snake can go a long time without eating as it hides and the damage covers up, unlike a turtle.
